Mikayla vs Michaela

My sister is pregnant with two twin sisters. She is now thinking about naming one of them [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] / [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. She likes [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] because it is traditional, and [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] because its spelling and pronunciation match.

She is open to other spelling suggestions, but she would very much appreciate that you also include if you prefer [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] or [name_f]Michaela[/name_f].

She is also open to middle name suggestions.

Thank you so much everyone!

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f], definitely. Looks classic and more elegant.

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] definitely, it looks classier & more formal. The only other way I like it is [name_f]MaKayla[/name_f] - not keen on [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] sorry.

Other spellings I’ve seen for it:
[name_f]McKayla[/name_f]
McKaela
Mickayla
MacKaylah

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Indie[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] of the two, but the spelling I’m most familiar with is [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f].

[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] just feels too trendy for me.

Definitely [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]! Gorgeous choice.

I prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] because it’s the most traditional and looks less trendy.

Here are the spellings from 2015 births in the US:
[name_f]Makayla[/name_f] (2237), [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] (941), [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] (639), [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f] (481), [name_f]Mckayla[/name_f] (259), [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] (222), Makaylah (99), [name_f]Makaila[/name_f] (86), [name_f]Makaela[/name_f] (52), [name_f]Micayla[/name_f] (45), Mykayla (42), [name_f]Mikaila[/name_f] (38), [name_f]Mackayla[/name_f] (34), Mikaella (33), [name_f]Macayla[/name_f] (32), Mikaylah (31), [name_f]Michaella[/name_f] (28), Michela (23), Mickayla (22), [name_f]Mikala[/name_f] (22), Mekayla (21), [name_f]Michayla[/name_f] (21), Mikeyla (20), Mykaela (16), Mikhaela (15), Micaella (15), Makeyla (15), [name_f]Makala[/name_f] (13), Mikela (13), Mikella (12), Mckaela (11), Mykala (11), Makeila (9), Mckaylah (9), [name_f]Micheala[/name_f] (8), Makailah (7), Mickaela (7), Michaelah (7), Mikeila (7), Mkayla (7), [name_f]Makalah[/name_f] (6), [name_f]Michala[/name_f] (6), Mikeala (6), Makaelah (5), [name_f]Michella[/name_f] (5), Mykaila (5), [name_f]Mikhayla[/name_f] (5), [name_f]Mikhaila[/name_f] (5), Mahkayla (5)

It’s a common enough name that I don’t think [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] will have pronunciation issues. I definitely prefer that spelling to [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f]!

I prefer the spelling [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] without a doubt. [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] / [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] / [name_f]Mckayla[/name_f] / [name_f]Mackayla[/name_f] / [name_f]Micayla[/name_f] / etc. are all too trendy and look “misspelled” to me. I like that [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] looks like the feminine version of [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. I also love [name_u]Micah[/name_u] / [name_u]Mika[/name_u]. I have a friend [name_u]Mika[/name_u] who’s named after her dad [name_m]Mike[/name_m]. I also have a friend [name_u]Micah[/name_u] who’s named after his father [name_u]Michael[/name_u].

My name is [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. I prefer the [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelling; all the others look tacky and trendy to me. But bear in mind that very few people will spell [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] right, trust me, I’ve had this name for 16 years. I’ve gotten so many incredible variations over the years, [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f], [name_f]Makala[/name_f], [name_f]Mikala[/name_f], [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f], [name_f]McKayla[/name_f], etc. so on and so forth.
But at the end of the day, even though no one spell my name correctly and traditionally, I’m glad I had the traditional spelling.

I have a different opinion than everyone else here~

[name_f]Mikayla[/name_f]. [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] looks like [name_u]Michael[/name_u]-a. And my instinct is to pronounce it that way even though I know it is wrong~

Regardless of what ever she names the baby, congrats to her for her twins and to you for two new nieces~

This is such a cute name! I’ve only ever met one and hers was spelled [name_f]Makayla[/name_f], so that’s the first spelling I’d come across.

I recently learned about [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] and I do not like it. It’s just [name_u]Michael[/name_u] with an A at the end, imo, so it makes me want to say [name_u]Michael[/name_u]-uh. Not attractive for me.

I much prefer [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] or [name_f]Makaela[/name_f], they’re just way more visually appealing to me. I prefer super girly names, so that’s probably why I wouldn’t like the [name_u]Michael[/name_u] in there. That’s just my opinion.

I’m not really fond of the I in there, but between her two spellings, I’d definitely go with [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f]!

Oh, and congrats to your sister! Twin girls are the best =]

Another vote for [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]! I agree with pp’s, other spellings look too trendy/tacky/made-up to me. I think that as many spelling variations as the name has, few people will assume a particular one, and will usually ask her how it’s spelled. So I don’t really see much benefit to going with a phonetic spelling since she would have to explain it either way.

I prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], but my nephew’s girlfriend spells it [name_f]Mycala[/name_f].

I much prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]

There are o many speling variations of this names, many of the oonique & trendy, that I feel [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] will be the easiest to live with. “[name_m]How[/name_m] is your name spelled?” - “Like [name_u]Michael[/name_u] with an -a at the end!”, apart from not having to spell her name out every time this way, [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] also looks the classiest, the most mature and the most timeless, too.

I really don’t like the name [name_u]Michael[/name_u] so, on this rare occasion, I’d pick anything but [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. For some reason, I just don’t like how it looks. My preferred spelling is [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] but [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] is alright too.

Of the two, [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] wins. However, my favorite spelling is [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] – it’s a legitimate variation and easier to pronounce. She may also like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Camila[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelina[/name_f].

This is a hard one because [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is the original spelling but no one knows it. I know two girls named [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] and both complain about people saying it wrong and not knowing how to say their name. Honestly, people spell this name however they want. I know [name_f]Makayla[/name_f], [name_f]Mikala[/name_f], Mykayla. I prefer [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] but [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] isn’t bad either.

As a [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f], I am a bit biased. There are so many spelling variations that people will ask how it is spelled no matter which you choose. I don’t have any trouble with the [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] spelling. I think its just a preference thing. Good luck.
