I’ve been wondering lately about the names [name]Mila[/name] and [name]Milla[/name]. I know there was a previous thread about pronunciation, but the results were rather split. So how would you pronounce them and which do you like better? Because I honestly love both and can’t decide between them.
I must agree. [name]Mila[/name] is MEE-la and [name]Milla[/name] is [name]MIL[/name]-ah. I personally would not assume [name]Mila[/name] was MY-la unless I was informed that was how that person pronounced it. I’m pretty sure several European countries also recognize [name]Mila[/name] as MEE-la as well (like [name]Mila[/name] Kunis who was born in Ukraine).
In Eastern European countries, both [name]Mila[/name] and [name]Milla[/name] are always pronounced Mee-luh. It’s usually short for Ludmilla (or [name]Ludmila[/name]). Given the context, I would never pronounce them any other way. [name]Milla[/name] Jovovich is a perfect example:
[name]Camila[/name] is rather high on the charts – at least more so than I expected. Somewhere in the middle of the Top 100. So does that mean there’ll be more [name]Milas[/name] running around?
[name]Mila[/name]: mee-lah, [name]Milla[/name]: mill-ah. I’ve never heard either pronounced my-lah (that would be [name]Myla[/name] in my book!). Prefer [name]Mila[/name] on it’s own but if it’s going to be a nickname for [name]Matilda[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] then I prefer [name]Milla[/name]! [name]Hope[/name] that helps!
