Hey, I was wondering about your views on the name [name_u]Milan[/name_u], does it suit boys or girls more. I’m pretty sure it originated as a boys name but to me it sounds a bit girly. Is i more suited to a middlename or first.
I wanted to use this name for a child because it is similar to a friend of mines name [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m].
[name_u]Milan[/name_u] is a boy’s name that has Slavic roots, and is used as a boy’s name in several countries. [name_u]Milan[/name_u] the place name, is of a different origin and has been used for boys and girls. I would say it’s masculine. I would use [name_f]Milana[/name_f] for a girl.
I know someone with a daughter named [name_u]Milan[/name_u], so to me it feels like a girl’s name. But as a place name it’s really unisex! I think it works for either.
I only know one [name_u]Milan[/name_u], a boy. I think the sounds to me are more masculine, and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] or [name_f]Milana[/name_f] would be the female alternative
The only [name_u]Milan[/name_u] I’ve ever known was a girl, so I can’t picture it on a boy, but I can see how it might sound more masculine, à la [name_m]Julian[/name_m] or [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], because of its ending. Personally, I think it could work on either.
I could totally see the [name_u]Milan[/name_u] going either way. 1st this is a place name so like virtue names it could work for either gender. 2nd [name_u]Milan[/name_u] has a similar ending to more popular boys names like [name_m]Ethan[/name_m] as has been pointed out. Despite this several people know female Milans. If I were gender guessing with this name and had no middle to work with, I would just have to ask.
