Milena

What are your thoughts on [name]Milena[/name]? I have always really liked it and I know that the traditional nn for it, [name]Mila[/name], is skyrocketing up the popularity list, but I wouldn’t use it, and I feel like [name]Mila[/name] as a nn for [name]Milena[/name] is not that obvious.

[name]Milena[/name] is new to the list at 965. I’m not one to care for popularity that much anyway.

[name]Do[/name] you like it? If you could tell me why or why not that would be great.

No babies yet, just making lists and driving the fiance nuts

[name]EDIT[/name]: [name]How[/name] do you pronounce it?

[name]Milena[/name] is a pretty Slavic name with an exotic European flair. I pronounce it “mee-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh”. I also like the French version Mylène (mee-len).

I really think [name]Milena[/name] is beautiful! I pronounce it mu-lee-nuh.

Mee-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh. I really like it.

I like it, but it just sounds so foreign to me. If you used it, I would want to know about your background, because I would assume you were foreign

It’s really growing on me actually, I pronounce it mee-[name]LAY[/name]-nah (or nuh) and would [name]Lena[/name] ([name]LAY[/name]-nah) as a nickname. I’ve always loved the nickname [name]Lena[/name] and have [name]Elena[/name] on my list as a route to it, but [name]Milena[/name] has recently come onto my radar and I like it because it would honour myself in a strange sort of way (name’s [name]Millie[/name]).

I pronounce it mee-[name]LAY[/name]-nah. I love the name, I think it’s beautiful. I knew a really lovely girl from Germany named [name]Milena[/name] so I’ve got really positive associations with it.

Thank you so much everyone. It’s very quickly becoming a favorite, and the responses made me love it more.

mee-[name]LAY[/name]-nuh.

I think it’s lovely…I’ve known several and what I love about it is how well it works in multiple languages…you could travel and live all over the world with the name [name]Milena[/name] and it would be familiar. I know a couple Polish Milenas, a Bulgarian [name]Milena[/name], an Italian [name]Milena[/name], etc. Actually, it would have been DH’s name had he been a girl.

Hmm…
[name]Milena[/name] is a really stunning choice, I love the whole European vibe of this name. [name]Milena[/name] sounds stunning and I love the nickname [name]Mila[/name] but due to the popularity of [name]Milena[/name] sky-rocketing you could use the nickname [name]Millie[/name]. I pronounce [name]Milena[/name] as mee-[name]LAY[/name]-na I think [name]Milena[/name] is a elegant choice, very pretty and you should go for it. The name is very low in the popularity ranks which ultimately means that their are handful of babies with this name.

Exactly what I am looking for! An international name that’s easy to pronounce, recognizable, clearly feminine… Would a little Latina [name]Milena[/name] work?

Yes, I think a Latina named [name]Milena[/name] would work, for sure! The beauty of [name]Milena[/name] is in the fact that it’s a pretty global name which travels the world.

Absolutely.

I pronounce it as mee-[name]LE[/name]-nah, so I guess I’m the odd one out!

I think it’s a very beautiful name.

I pronounce it meh-[name]LEE[/name]-na. I think it’s a really pretty name! [name]Do[/name] you worry about the rising popularity, though?

Popularity is really not an issue for me. Besides, at 965, I don’t know if it’s going to go skyrocketing anytime soon, but what do I know? Lol.

I pronounce it Muh-[name]Lee[/name]-Na. I absolutely love this name

I say Mee-[name]Lay[/name]-[name]Nuh[/name]. I think it is a gorgeous name!

For what it’s worth, [name]Milena[/name] is a Czech name and properly pronounced, like all Czech words, with the stress on the first syillable. MEE-leh-nuh. It’s lovely, and the most beautiful of all the Czech names. But it’ll be hard to have that pronunciation on American English life.

If you go with MeelLay-nah, you’ll be making up something new, in essence. And that will be lovely too, but not the cool Euroepan thing you might think you are choosing.
