Millicent: uncommon nicknames?

I’ve always loved [name]Milly[/name]/ [name]Millie[/name], but it’s just so popular now that I’m wondering if there are any other nicknames that could work?

[name]Mimi[/name] would be cute. Also, I think most names that start with “M” could use the nickname [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Em[/name].

This is not as intuitive, but perhaps [name]Ilsa[/name] could work. You can almost hear it in [name]Millicent[/name]. Or Liss? Or [name]Leese[/name]? Or maybe even [name]Liz[/name]? Or [name]Lizzie[/name]?

@je m’appelle, thank you! [name]Love[/name] all of those ideas. Would not have thought of [name]Emmy[/name] or [name]Lizzy[/name]! Is [name]Izzy[/name] too much of a stretch? I ask because my husband loves it.

[name]Icey[/name] might work because [name]Millicent[/name] has ice in it.
I don’t know any children who go by [name]Millie[/name]. It doesn’t strike me as over popular, just adorably familiar. I know about 10 [name]Isabelle[/name]'s who go by [name]Izzy[/name] but I don’t know any [name]Millie[/name]'s.
I agree the [name]Mimi[/name] would also be way cute. I think [name]Lissa[/name] or [name]Lissie[/name] would work, also.
Good luck!

If you’re in the US like your location says, I’m wondering what makes you think [name]Millie[/name] is “too popular”? As a given name, it was ranked 717 and it’s not too common of a nickname for other names that contain “mil”.

[name]Millicent[/name] could be called [name]Penny[/name] (-cent = penny).

I think [name]Tilly[/name] could be an adorable nn for [name]Millicent[/name]. All of the suggestions above are great too.

I knew of a [name]Melissa[/name] called Lissel which is a bit cute

@scarletrune, I think I should have said it’s too common for my comfort zone. I really don’t want any of my children to have to share a name with anyone they know if I can help it. Not that there’s anything wrong with common names (I love many of them) but I just always hated sharing a name with even one other kid so I try to find legitimate names with a long history of use and even ones that sound familiar, but that are unlikely to be used by anyone here (I’m in Oklahoma). Or I’m ok with a formal name that is more common if I can find an uncommon nickname, but [name]Millicent[/name] is much more rare than [name]Millie[/name], so I’d just like to have a backup nickname in case.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I also think [name]Mills[/name] could be cute.

[name]Milly[/name] isn’t actually that popular [name]Millie[/name] was 800-900 rated last year. [name]Milly[/name] has not been in the top 1000 since about 2000.

Lissy would be a cute nn or miley (My-[name]Lee[/name])

Throwing a curveball one out there I read in a book once: Millicent nn [name]Minty[/name].

I adore [name]Milly[/name], but if it’s too popular for you, then it’s too popular for you. Doesn’t stop it being an absolutely gorgeous nickname, though.

@kellymarie1992 You’re right, it’s just that [name]Millie[/name] was given to 383 girls last year alone and I know of a few here, so it’s not unlikely that there would be some in her school. I realize that’s pretty uncommon to most people, though.

@essjay [name]Minty[/name] could be cute!

My daughter’s name is [name]Millicent[/name] & her twin sister is [name]Elizabeth[/name]. They are 6 & she does go by [name]Millie[/name] sometimes but that’s only because you wouldn’t believe how many people can’t pronounce [name]Millicent[/name].

The only thing I can think of that no one else has suggested is [name]Missy[/name].

Cenna
Cenny/[name]Cinny[/name]
[name]Lili[/name] (leelee)
[name]Lily[/name]
[name]Milla[/name]

I know what you mean about [name]Millie[/name]. Sometimes, it’s enough that a name is trendy, not necessarily popular. All those old-fashioned nicknames are coming back really hard. I don’t know a [name]Millie[/name], but I do know a [name]Tilly[/name] and a [name]Minnie[/name].

My friend’s name is [name]Millicent[/name], and she goes by “Cea”. Pronounced “Cee-A”

[name]Mimi[/name], [name]Milla[/name], [name]Senna[/name], [name]LeeLee[/name].
