Millie as a first name?

What do you guys feel about [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a full first name? I adore this name but have heard divided opinions about whether it’s too ‘cutesy’ to be used as a full name or if It should only be used a a nickname.
The only name I like that shortens to [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], but I live in Australia and a lot of people here would find the royal connotations a little much. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think there’s anything wrong with just [name_f]Millie[/name_f]? What full names do you like that could use [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nickname?

Absolutely yes!!

[name_f]Millie[/name_f] is gorgeous as a standalone choice, it’s very popular in the UK, and currently gaining popularity in the US. It’s one of those nicknames as first names that really, has been around forever, and has become relatively well known on it’s own too, a bit like [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], etc. I think it’s beautiful, and would definitely go for it on it’s own.

[name_f]Millie[/name_f] is beautiful, sweet, and charming and definitely can stand on its own. If I were to use a full name, I would use [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

I am one of those crazies that LOVES “[name_f]Sunday[/name_f] Names” - formal names. So I vote [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]- even with connotations. But that’s just me- I tend to be a little nutty about formal names  [name_m]Just[/name_m] another point of view.

Same, [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] (or [name_f]Camille[/name_f]) gets my vote over [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] or [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Millie[/name_f] on its own. Super pretty and spunky. Makes me think of a very independent girl/woman!

I really like [name_f]Millie[/name_f] on its own. My daughters name is [name_f]Izzie[/name_f] and it’s not short for anything. Xx

I think that [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is a very cute name, that has enough character to stand on it’s own.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] it as a standalone name. Though on my list, I have it as a nickname for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]!

I’m Australian and know a lot of girls who go by [name_f]Millie[/name_f] all the time. I’m in my mid twenties and went to school with a few [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]'s and one [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] all who chose [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. I think that speaks a lot for the name. That said, I like [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] myself and think the royal connections will fade over time. Most of her classmates will have no idea who that [name_f]Camilla[/name_f] is.

Absolutely, go for it!

[name_f]Millie[/name_f] stands easily on its own and has so much vintage charm!

I live in the U.S., where this name is virtually unheard of for anyone younger than 85. Both my grandmother and my husband’s paternal grandmother were named [name_f]Mildred[/name_f]. My grandma, [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f], went by [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. I would love to use it one day.

I do know one little girl in the U.S. who goes by [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. Her full name is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], but everyone calls her [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. The choice is so refreshing here in the U.S.!

I’m one of those people who prefers using a formal name on the birth certificate & a nn for everyday usage. There are lots of names that you can use [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nn for…sorry for any repeats:

[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]
(both of those last two pronounced as eh-MILL- to start them off rather than eh-MEEL)
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]
[name_f]Camellia[/name_f]
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f]
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] (although this one’s nms, it does lend itself to [name_f]Millie[/name_f])

Going a little farther afield, if it works as a nn for [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], you could even use [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nn for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Melissa[/name_f].

Good luck!

I think just [name_f]Millie[/name_f] works.
Some ideas:
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] - so not a fan of this one
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] - I like it, but I think [name_f]Cami[/name_f] or [name_f]Mila[/name_f] are more natural nicknames, [name_f]Camille[/name_f] is another option.
[name_f]Mila[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] works too.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] the idea of [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]!
[name_f]Emily[/name_f] - This one feels very natural to me. [name_f]Emily[/name_f] “[name_f]Millie[/name_f]”. [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] works as well.
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f] - this works too “ah-muh-lee”
[name_f]Mildred[/name_f] - same as [name_f]Millicent[/name_f].
[name_f]Milena[/name_f] - I think this is beautiful! [name_f]Mileva[/name_f] is another option.
[name_f]Melinda[/name_f] - works too. Not a huge fan.
[name_f]Romilly[/name_f] - another natural nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f]. I like this too.

I agree that [name_f]Millie[/name_f] works fine by itself. But I adore it as a nickname for [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Milana[/name_f].

I typically like formal names, but [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is one of the only ones that I like on its own better than a longer form. So I vote yes. I think [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is adorable. I’d probably pick a longer middle name just because it’s short. So something like: [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Coraline[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_f]Angeline[/name_f], etc.

We know a [name_f]Millie[/name_f] in NSW, but her formal first name is [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] Go for it! Other than [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], you could go with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] (flower), [name_f]Mildred[/name_f] (maybe not ready for a return…), or [name_f]Millicent[/name_f] (like [name_f]Mildred[/name_f], not something I would use).

[name_f]Susan[/name_f]

I think it’s absolutely fine on its own. I know several actually (one is an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], but the rest are just [name_f]Millie[/name_f] or [name_f]Milly[/name_f]).

I have [name_u]Billie[/name_u] on my list though, so what do I know

@ Oliviasarah: [name_u]Billie[/name_u] is adorable! I’d have it on my list too except I named my kitten that haha

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! I’m definitely feeling a lot better about [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a full name : )

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (and names like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] that sound very close) are out because I have a little cousin with that name.

I would use [name_f]Camilla[/name_f], probably. But if I really wanted a little [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and couldn’t use any of the formal names, then I would say [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is a great name. It might not age the best, but it’s adorable!
