Name dilemma! So I’m due in a few months and still struggling to figure out the perfect name for our daughter.
I’ve narrowed it down to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ruby[/name_f].
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is my personal favorite, but it doesn’t go very well with our last name. We would basically always call her [name_f]Millie[/name_f] which does go well with our last name. It’s also extremely popular which makes me unsure.
[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] is in a sweet spot for popularity…I like familiar/Top 100 but not Top 10. It goes great with our last name. But I just can’t completely let go of Amelia/Millie.
Her older sister is [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. I think both go well with her name. I think the middle name we’ll end up going with is [name_f]Kendall[/name_f].
I vote [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] “Millie”! If you know that you love Amelia/Millie so much that you’d always think of it as the one that got away, I would use it! Flow isn’t necessarily the most important thing, and even then [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is what you’d be calling her the majority of the time anyways.
That said, [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] would also be an excellent choice, one of my personal favorite names!
Both are gorgeous I personally prefer [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] but I think your heart lies with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] so I would go with your preferred choice. Honestly on a day to day people really do not use their surname thank goodness as my daughters is long hyphenated mouthful of a surname so I wouldn’t stress to much about this. Also I do not think flow is that important I literally know people named things like J@ne L@ne if J@ne can live with her first and last name rhyming then your [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] can deal with a slightly clunky flow. I also really like how [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] sounds with Car0line. Go with the name you love!
I think [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] goes better than [name_f]Kendall[/name_f] and would pick [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] personally but I don’t have the attachment to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] that you do. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kendall[/name_f] have really mismatched vibes IMO.
But, it you’ll always wish you used [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], then I would go for it.
I think it seems like you would regret not using [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], and it is a beautiful name so my vote goes to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] is also great, though
I do prefer Amelia/Millie with sister [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. If it’s your favorite, you should absolutely use it! Popularity is so seldom what you fear it will be in daily life, anyway.
[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] is my favorite! Colorful, timeless, elegant powerful. [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] Kend@ll sounds lovely.
[name_f]Millie[/name_f] is sweet and gentle, but I prefer it as a nickname. If [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is an option, I think you should go with it. It sounds great with your oldest daughter’s name. Most importantly, you seem to really love it.
I would like to suggest [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] K&ndall Surname. I think it may resolve the flow with your last name and you could keep all the names you adore!
I love the name [name_f]Millie[/name_f], but your hesitations about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are valid. What if you just cut the middleman and named her [name_f]Millie[/name_f]? [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] is such a cute name, but I do think [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Kendall[/name_f] works a little better than [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f]Kendall[/name_f]. What about [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]? Combine your two favorites, you could still call her [name_f]Millie[/name_f], and you wouldn’t have the issue of it sounding bad with your last name. And it’s such a cute combo in itself!
I wouldn’t worry about popularity or even slightly bad flow with the LN, if [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is your number 1 name, you should use it! I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Kendall[/name_f], she’s sweet and spunky! And [name_f]Millie[/name_f] is an absolutely adorable nn for [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!
[name_f]Ruby[/name_f] is beautiful and my favorite . I also like [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a stand alone name . I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] especially if you mainly want [name_f]Millie[/name_f] but it’s not a bad choice
I personally feel flow IS important as she will be known as first/last name and introduced as such, intercom at school, name on office door, whatever…. etc. But, I think it depends in what way [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] doesn’t flow with your last name. Does it rhyme, sound too similar, too descriptive? [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourite is [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] but both names are beautiful and if the flow of Amelia/last name is just slightly off I hope you would still consider it because of it being your favourite. Maybe [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]?
I have actually never met an [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] ever. I think it is soo beautiful. I have never been a fan of [name_f]Ruby[/name_f] it has never appealed visually or in sound to me, in my opinion it sounds very rugged and old. I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] together! It rolls off the tongue soo beautifully.
