I have an almost two year old named [name]Milo[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] and another on the way (still in my first trimester so don’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl). My husband and I both really like the name [name]Amos[/name] and I’m hoping to get your honest opinions on the name and whether or not you think it goes with [name]Milo[/name].
We love [name]Amos[/name] because of the way it sounds, but also because the biblical [name]Amos[/name] was known for fighting for justice and was often quoted by [name]Martin[/name] [name]Luther[/name] [name]King[/name], [name]Jr[/name]. (we especially love that in his last speech, he reminds people that they must “be an [name]Amos[/name]”). So it’s a name that has a lot of meaning for us, even though we’re not religious.
All that said, I just can’t quite get over the “anus” thing. Am I setting my kid up for a lifetime of terrible teasing? What do you guys think? And do you think it goes ok with big brother [name]Milo[/name]?
[name]Amos[/name] is lovely! It’s not a personal favorite of mine, but you obviously love it and I think it goes great with [name]Milo[/name]. The associations to [name]Martin[/name] [name]Luther[/name] [name]King[/name], [name]Jr[/name]., are lovely, too.
I honestly hadn’t even considered (or noticed!) the anus thing until you mentioned it. I think [name]Amos[/name] is a great name and perfect with big brother [name]Milo[/name]!
I like [name]Amos[/name] for the sound, and the association the [name]Martin[/name] [name]Luther[/name] [name]King[/name] [name]Jr[/name] is very cool. i’m not a fan of biblical names. but this is nice.
The only problem I can see with it is is the long O sound in both [name]Amos[/name] and [name]Milo[/name], but it’s not a big deal.
I’ve never thought of or noticed the anus thing until you mentioned it.
[name]Amos[/name] - The unforgettable name of our waiter at a pizza joint in Crested Butte [name]Colorado[/name] where we enjoyed superb pizza after a great mountain bike ride, his calm collected demeanor and mostly his name: [name]Amos[/name]. We both immediately looked at each other and concurred. A rarity. Upon sharing the name with family, the first thing my sister-in-law said over the phone was: “i’m sorry did you just say anus?” I immediately retracted and said, [name]AMOS[/name], thinking perhaps she misheard. [name]Amos[/name] not Amus or Anus - but yack, it was already too late. It was forever tainted by her immediate reaction. I wouldn’t dare put that weight upon my child - yikes I can hear the playground antics. With that said, I like the name and perhaps not worrying or thinking about everyone’s reaction is the way to go. It’s unfortunate of the connotation. We are considering [name]Wylie[/name] for our first boy to be born in [name]June[/name] and there is the Wile E. Coyote connotation that keeps popping up. I can see it, but am confident that if chosen, an acquaintance born after 2012 will not know the cartoon reference. I would suggest [name]Arlo[/name], but it’s similar to [name]Milo[/name]. Best to you as you’ve got plenty of time on this one and it could be a girl!
