Milo for a girl

YAY or NAY?

Thanks:)

Nay. It’s a boys name.

No.

I’m pretty against boy’s names on girls for multiple reasons. If you’re naming her after someone, I find it a little more appealing, but for the most part:

I have a unisex name and I hate it and find it extremely inconvienent. Any time I apply online for a job in childcare or pet care or any kind of in-home services, I need to specify my gender. I’m sure before I started doing this I was passed up on jobs because people thought I was a man. When I say my name, I often get asked why I have a boy’s name. (And I dont).

Second, I think naming a girl with a boy’s name is horribly anti-feminist and offensive to women/your daughter (not specifically those who do it, but the general trends). Originally the whole trend came from the idea that people wanted their daughters to have traditionally masculine traits: being powerful, strong, smart, hardworking women, and that having a name associated with feminine traits (delicate, pretty, nurturing) would hold them back.

So yeah, I’d avoid [name_m]Milo[/name_m] on a girl. It’s also currently really trendy on boys, so even if I thought it was cool I wouldn’t think of the near future as a good time to switch over.

What about:
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_f]Milena[/name_f]
[name_f]Io[/name_f]
[name_f]Juno[/name_f]

@leadmythoughts Well said. I really wish every single pregnant celebrity would read your post!!! Lol.

My take is [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is popular for boys, so I wouldn’t give it to a girl. I don’t even think it ages well on a boy.

I agree with a lot of what @leadmythoughts has said, but if you’re looking only for feedback on [name_m]Milo[/name_m] and not on boy-names-on-girls as a trend, I think this is the most compelling point.

You might like [name_f]Myla[/name_f], though, or [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], or [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u] (which I know is considered unisex but feels much more usable on a girl than [name_m]Milo[/name_m] does).

I have a friend called [name_m]Milo[/name_m] (we pronounce it mee-lo, though). It’s short for a nickname that is not even close to her real name, but somehow she pulls it off. However, I would personally try to avoid using a male name on a daughter for the same reasons listed by the other users.

Sorry, i dont like it.

Nay, because it’s one of my favorites for a boy. I don’t see why not though, if you like spunky masculine names on girls. it’s not so far off from [name_f]Marlo[/name_f].

Nay. There is a plethora of options out there for a girl without dipping into the boys’ pool.

Agree with [name_f]Myla[/name_f], although I would spell it [name_f]Mila[/name_f]. I would not name a girl [name_m]Milo[/name_m].

Definitely nay.

Well, personally, I only see this name for a boy. I could never see this name on a little girl. It’s a bit too masculine for a girl.

I advise against it

No, definitely only a boy’s name

I think it’s cute.

100% a boys name! and a great one at that. in my opinion it would be like naming your daughter [name_m]Mark[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m].

Have you considered it for a middle name?

No, it’s a boys name. [name_m]Plenty[/name_m] of similar sounding names that are better ([name_f]IMO[/name_f]) for a girl.

[name_m]Milo[/name_m] for a girl is strange… but it could work!

I prefer to give my girl a girls name, but I see it working for a variation of the very popular [name_f]Mila[/name_f]…

No! I strongly dislike boy names on girls! [name_m]Milo[/name_m] is a boy name.
