Mimsy?

Not planning on using but this was on my list, what are your thoughts on this name…

Is it usable? Which middle name would you pair it with?

I think Mimsy is nice, although I would prefer it as a nickname for something like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] first association is Nearly Headless Nick’s full name (Sir [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] de Mimsy-Porpington) but I don’t think that makes it unusable, and that probably wouldn’t be most people’s first thought.

IMO Mimsy would sound nice with a long and elegant middle name. Some suggestions:

Mimsy [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_u]Florence[/name_u]
Mimsy [name_f]Astraea[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helped!

Valid! Agreed, the association you mention along with “The Last Mimzy” are actually why I have chosen not to use. I do think it would make a sweet nn as you pointed out!

These combos are absolutely delightful  love it paired with a longer middle. Thank you!

I love Mimsy for a nickname! Feels usable for a wide range of names - everything from [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] to [name_u]Simone[/name_u] to [name_f]Imelda[/name_f] - but my favourite has to be [name_f]Jemima[/name_f]. Using it as a first isn’t my style as it’s a little too children’s book for my taste but if you love it then go for it :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]My[/name_f] first association is actually posh [name_f]English[/name_f] folks calling their mum Mumsy but that’s really v distant as a connection and I doubt most folks would make it

Mimsy [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_u]Florentine[/name_u]
Mimsy [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]
Mimsy [name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_f]Soleil[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_f]Ondine[/name_f]
Mimsy [name_u]Rue[/name_u]

Mimsy is adorable! Does sound like a nickname. Maybe for a name that starts with M or contains multiple Ms…
Margaret, Matilda, Emmeline …

I think it works as a nickname as others have said but it’s too close to “mumsy” for me to vouch for it as a given name.

It also reminds me of mumsy, which is what I call my mum when I’m being sarcastic. It’s a very pretentious way to call your mother here in the UK

I also think of mimosas. I’d use it as a nickname only, for names such as [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f] (I know one who goes by Mim!) and any M name really!

I like it as a nickname for something longer but a standalone name it feels a bit unfinished.

I like it as a nickname.
