I find myself falling for [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]! It’s an uncommon name with ancient/mythological history behind it. It has a great meaning, a cute nickname “[name_f]Mina[/name_f]”, and the best of literature ([name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m], The Spoon [name_u]River[/name_u] Anthology).
It also feels really clunky and way too heavy for a little girl or even a teenager. I’m finding it hard to create combinations with too - I thought about putting it as a middle but the -a ending makes it even harder to combine.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know a [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? (I’ve met Athenas, but never a [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]!) Would you name your daughter [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? What would you use for a first/middle name with [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]?
Regarding it being hard for a little girl to wear, it is a heavy name, but we’re adults far far longer than we’re children and with child-friendly nn’s like [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] I really don’t think it’s a problem.
I agree that the meaning is lovely and I kinda like it, but it’s really not my style so I’d never personally use it. I feel like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is just a more pleasant sound, so I’d be more likely to use that.
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] sounds well (if very mythological :))
[name_m]Even[/name_m] something like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] sounds nice.
All of the Minervas I know of were born in the early to mid 1800s, so I can’t exactly ask them how they feel about their names. I think [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] would be a great choice. For whatever reason, [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] was the first name that came to mind. I think pairing it with something mainstream takes away from the clunky, unusual aspects of the name.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know a [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? I do not know anyone named [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]. Would you name your daughter [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? I would consider it because [name_f]Mina[/name_f] or [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] are so cute to wear while their growing up. What would you use for a first/middle name with [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? I would use [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f] or [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f].
I do know someone named [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] she goes by [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and is somewhere in her twenties, it is too heavy for me so I probably wouldn’t use it. As a middle I would choose something a little more whimsical/softer like…
[name_f]Honesty[/name_f], I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] and have it on my guilt pleasures list (only because I’m fairly certain my husband will veto it). I love the link to wisdom as well as the amazing Professor McGonagall. I don’t find it clunky, especially with nicknames like [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f].
I like classical or simple feminine names paired with [name_f]Minerva[/name_f], such as:
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Corinne[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Elaine[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is a beautiful name, I don’t think it’s particularly clunky but I do agree that it’s more suiting on an adult rather than on a child (perhaps you could use [name_f]Minnie[/name_f]/[name_f]Minny[/name_f] as a nickname if you find Minevra too heavy for a child?)
I know several Athenas, but (sadly) no [name_f]Minerva[/name_f].
I wouldn’t mind naming my daughter [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] if it was my favourite name, it’s a very lovely name.
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is the name of my dh’s aunt and grandmother. It makes it difficult for me to picture on a young child. He also has a margo ([name_f]Margaux[/name_f]), in the same aunt sibset, which I think is very pretty.
I love [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]. I would use it but my goddess is [name_f]Athena[/name_f] so I would feel weird using her [name_m]Roman[/name_m] name. I think [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Mina[/name_f] are adorable for a little girl. [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Via[/name_f], [name_f]Neva[/name_f], are cool for a teen and then, as a pp said, we’re adults most of our lives so [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] is awesome. It’s a very cool name with a lot of history, mythology, and literary connections.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you know a [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? - Yes, I’ve known 2. [name_m]Both[/name_m] quite old. [name_f]One[/name_f] is dead now.
Would you name your daughter [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? - I would definitely consider it, I think it’s quite cool. I love a number of [name_m]Greco[/name_m]-[name_m]Roman[/name_m] mythology names. [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] seems quite usable to me.
What would you use for a first/middle name with [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]? - Oooh, combo time!
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Blythe[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Raquel[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
[name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Rue[/name_u]
[name_f]Minnie[/name_f] is a cute nickname. I think names like [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] and [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] are starting to sound like a good alternative to the trendy names if your looking for something else
I like [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] [name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
For a middle name I like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f]
I love the name! There wouldn’t be 5 of them in her kindergarten class. My daughter’s university had a beautiful [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] statue on campus.
