Mira vs Mila

I say Mira as mee-rah, in favor of the Slavic meaning. Would there be any confusion here?

In the US I think at first people would say [name_f]Mira[/name_f] like MY-ra but it would only take one correction to achieve the pronounciation you desire

Well, thereā€™s [name_f]Myra[/name_f], Mee-rah, and then how I would pronounce it, Mirr-a.

If youā€™re willing to correct people, it seems fine,

Yay I think I finally got something without people having to explain it a million different ways 10 times over! :+1:šŸ’

Iā€™m in the US and a Iā€™ve known a few Miras who all pronounced it your way and never had trouble with it! Itā€™s never occurred to me that there are other pronunciations, really!

Random: Do you say Bea as 1 or 2 syllables?

Eta: just to be clear, I was asking @ellerbea

I live on the west coast in us and have never heard MY-rah, only MEE-ra

I would choose [name_f]Mira[/name_f] because I think [name_f]Mila[/name_f] is a little overplayed at this point.

I do think a lot of Americans wonā€™t distinguish between mee-ruh and meer-uh, but if that doesnā€™t bother you much, it should be fine.

(fwiw, Iā€™ve never heard [name_f]Mira[/name_f] pronounced like Myra)
