Mireille pronunciation

I have tried to search this topic and came up with nada so I hope this isn’t a repeat thread.

I love the name [name_f]Mireille[/name_f] but I have seen three possible pronunciations for this name and I want to know the correct one. I think there are some [name_m]French[/name_m] or [name_m]French[/name_m]-Canadian berries and hopefully I can get some help.

  1. Meer-AY
  2. Me-ray
  3. Mih-rai-yeh

Now, I know 1 and 2 are similar but when I read them aloud they sound different. I don’t want [name_f]Mireille[/name_f] to be a contender and not know how to correctly say it.

Thanks!

The first pronunciation is correct: Mee-[name_u]RAY[/name_u], although there is a difference between the R sound in [name_m]French[/name_m] and English, as well as a bit of expression of the L’s, so it depends how technical you want to get. (I am Canadian, English-speaking, but I have taken a lot of [name_m]French[/name_m] classes and have some [name_m]French[/name_m]-speaking relatives so I know how the sounds work) hopefully this makes sense/helps!

Where I grew up its pronounced 2. Me-ray, but with a long E and a rolling R… not ray as in ray of sunshine.
