Miriam for a girl? Or other suggestions

My husband loves the name [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] for a girl (due in [name_u]August[/name_u]). I’m not in 100%, but we haven’t been able to agree on a better alternative.

The middle name may be [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], but it depends on how it flows.

  1. What do you think of [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] in general? We like that it is biblical and could honor a family member who recently passed named [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. Also, it is unique and goes well with our son’s name [name_u]Dean[/name_u] (in our opinion). We like the nickname Miri (if we use one), but like Miriam the way it is.

  2. Other alternatives we have considered that we can agree on are [name_f]Daniela[/name_f], [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] (but aren’t stoked that they will likely get shortened with names like [name_u]Dani[/name_u], [name_u]Gabi[/name_u], [name_f]Nessa[/name_f] and [name_f]Becca[/name_f]/[name_f]Becky[/name_f]). We are apprehensive about using popular names, even though we love some of them - like [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]…all of the beautiful ones!!!

  3. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any alternative suggestions that meet our requirements?

  • Cannot be in the top 100 names.
  • Cannot be gender neutral (no [name_u]Taylor[/name_u], [name_u]Jamie[/name_u]…etc).
  • Can be pronounced easily in English and Spanish and no weird spellings.
  • We would prefer a name that doesn’t have a nickname, but opposed to longer names if we love them.

I hope I didn’t write too much! Thank you for your guidance

I’m a [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. It’s a great name. I love love love my name. Nicknames are a very real thing for Miriams though. I get [name_f]Miri[/name_f] the most, but also [name_f]Mim[/name_f] and [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

I have no suggestions. Congrats on your pregnancy

Thanks so much [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]! I’d like to call her [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], but do like the nickname [name_f]Miri[/name_f]! The only other [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] I know also loves her name, so that is very comforting

Sorry I’m not really a fan of [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]
I prefer [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f]. [name_f]Mikhaila[/name_f], [name_f]Merrilee[/name_f], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f], [name_f]Miranda[/name_f]. Some of these are closer to [name_u]Michael[/name_u], I think.
I also like [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] & [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f] quite a lot.

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is one of my middle names! It is also my step-mother’s name, along with a grandmother and cousin, so for me it is quite unusable. I think it’s a lovely biblical names with tons of nns. [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Miri[/name_f], [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f], etc. But if your looking for something more distinctive, there is always [name_f]Mira[/name_f], [name_f]Mirit[/name_f], or even a different spelling ([name_f]Mariam[/name_f],[name_f]Maryam[/name_f], etc.)

I love [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and all the adorable nickname possibilities that go with it!

Sounds like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is perfect for you. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is gorgeous! I find [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] much more refreshing than the other names on your list, and the best with [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]. Looks nice with [name_u]Dean[/name_u] too.

Only other thoughts: [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Elora[/name_f]/[name_f]Eliora[/name_f]/[name_f]Elira[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], [name_f]Amaya[/name_f], [name_f]Amara[/name_f], [name_f]Milena[/name_f], [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]. Not sure why these came to mind, but they did!

My sister named her little girl [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] this year! They call her [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is a great name it’s nice to see it coming back.

If you’re looking to honor a [name_u]Michael[/name_u], [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] or [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] are obvious choices. [name_f]Michelle[/name_f] almost only ever gets shortened to [name_u]Shell[/name_u]/[name_f]Shella[/name_f]/[name_u]Shelly[/name_u]; though [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] could be [name_f]Kayla[/name_f]. There is also [name_u]Micah[/name_u], which is a boy name that has recently also been used for girls. [name_f]Myah[/name_f] would keep the long-I sound which sounds like [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. If you want to stick with the short I, you might also like [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] or [name_f]Mirabelle[/name_f]. Sorry I can’t comment on whether any of these will be usable in Spanish.

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. It seems to be less common than some of your other options, yet it is familiar and has a beautiful meaning and it’s Biblical which may be an added bonus. I think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] feels reserved and feminine, and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] feels bold and bright. If not Daphne, I would use something with either one or three syllables in the middle.

I am 34 but I still vividly remember a friend [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] I had in elementary school, she was one of the kindest people I have even known, not just in her actions but in her energy and her spirit which is why I still remember her and hold the name in such high regard.

Best wishes.

I love [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]! Honestly, I never thought that I would like it, but there was a little Kindergartener I was teaching this year with this name and it was fantastic! It didn’t seem old lady at all on this little girl, it felt really fresh and sweet. I think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] sounds wonderful with [name_u]Dean[/name_u], and [name_f]Miri[/name_f] would be a cute nickname if you felt the need to use one, personally I like nickname options just in case the child wants to go by something else.

I think [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is a very pretty name, and if you both like it I say go for it. I wouldn’t use [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] as a middle because its very abrupt. [name_f]Daniella[/name_f], [name_f]Vanessa[/name_f], and [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] would make great middles.

I love [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]!

I like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] but it’s my grandma’s name so I’m quite biased. Saying that, I will outright say I don’t like either of my grandads’ names so maybe that’s not the reason I like it. Anywho… as far as I am aware, my grandma has never been known as anything but [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] so I wouldn’t worry about it being naturally shortened if you’re not wanting it to. I do know a [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Mim[/name_f] though and I really love that. [name_f]Miri[/name_f] is really sweet, it definitely has the potential to be an every day nickname and I think it’s even capable of going with her into adulthood.

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is a lovely underused name. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is lovely together.

It’s a great name

To honor [name_u]Michael[/name_u], I’d opt for another angel name, or one w/’[name_u]Angel[/name_u]’ in it…[name_f]Raphaela[/name_f], [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Angeline[/name_f], Seraphinea, [name_f]Angelique[/name_f]…

I love [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. I think it is versatile and sweet. Some may see it as old fashioned/old lady, but I think sounds fresh. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Miriam[/name_f]. And [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] is so cute. But, if you aren’t set on [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], may I suggest [name_f]Mariam[/name_f]/[name_f]Maryam[/name_f]? I taught the sweetest little girl named [name_f]Maryam[/name_f] and I have adored the name ever since. Both [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and [name_f]Mariam[/name_f] are great choices! Other names you may like are: [name_f]Nora[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f]/[name_f]Noemi[/name_f], [name_f]Tirzah[/name_f], [name_f]Keziah[/name_f], [name_f]Keturah[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f], or [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is a lovely name, and I think it would fit well with [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] also flows well, although I suppose the flow also has to do with your surname.

[name_f]Miriam[/name_f] is gorgeous.

Thanks everyone for your input. I’m feeling much more comfortable with [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] and it helps that my husband loves the name. There will always be people who don’t like the name we choose and I’m just trying to focus on the positive! I like [name_f]Miriam[/name_f] [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] a lot too!
