Mishka for a girl. What do you think?

[name]Hi[/name]

One of my friends is nearly due with her first baby girl. They love the name Mishka for her pn mish (wish with an m) - ka (like cat without the t). They have been asking if it would be better to use it as a first name or as a nickname for Marishka (mah-rish-ka)? Her mn will be [name]Alexis[/name], surname Nemova.

I initially went what??!! when she told me her choice but it’s growing on me now! [name]Just[/name] wondering what you thought? Better as fn or nn?

Thanks everyone

I think it would be better as a nn. It feels a little insubstantial to me. Pretty, though…

I absolutely love the name “Marishka.” Honestly that gets my vote.

I think I prefer Marishka over Mishka as a formal name (it also just gives the family more options).
Have they considered [name]Minka[/name]?

I would go with [name]Mischa[/name] or Marishka.

So I’m getting the impression that I should tell her Marishka nn Mishka…!

Yes! I totally agree, I immediately though of [name]Mischa[/name] when I saw this thread, [name]Mischa[/name] is softer and prettier. However, Marishka is cool and Mishka would be a cool nn for it. I think it sounds pretty neat with their last name too.
