Mispronounced names

I was just wondering if someone has ever mispronounced your name. My name is [name]Cecilia[/name] and my younger cousin has always called my Xcilya I cant spell it, but it is like [name]Cecilia[/name] with a X. I have a friend named [name]Emma[/name] who has been called [name]Emmer[/name], Emu, and [name]Emmie[/name]. So what is your name and the strangest thing you have been called?

My name’s [name]Ingrid[/name], and I haven’t had many pronunciation issues with it (so far) but I have had kids calling me [name]England[/name]

[name]Erin[/name] is fairly hard to mispronounce, so I haven’t had any problems with my name thus far.

[name]Amanda[/name]'s easy to say, haha. But my last name is [name]German[/name] and I know that, but one time I had a teacher who tried to pronounce it all [name]German[/name]-like and I was like, “Uh…no…”

I only have the issue with people being lazy so sometimes I get [name]Diane[/name] instead of [name]Diana[/name]. Is the -a that troublesome?

I had one teacher actually ask because he said he knew a [name]Diana[/name] that was called [name]Dee[/name]-an-uh… that is just strange and that poor girl probably has more pronunciation problems than me.

My name is [name]Mimi[/name] and I get called Mimmers and Mimzy a lot.

[name]Caroline[/name]…I always get “is it [name]Lynn[/name] or [name]Line[/name]?”
My 5th grade teacher called me [name]Carolyn[/name] ALL year
Luckily, it seems to be a lot better now than in the 80s/90s.

All the [name]Ellie[/name]'s I’ve been hearing about are pretty young, like under 5. I’m almost 30 & I grew up with lots of [name]Kelly[/name]'s, [name]Lauren[/name]'s, [name]Jennifer[/name]'s, [name]Megan[/name]'s, & [name]Jessica[/name]'s. I’d tell someone my name, [name]Ellie[/name], and they’d look at me confused like “What did she say?” and then I would say “like [name]Kelly[/name] without the K” and they would relax like “[name]Ah[/name]! Ok.” I was always being called [name]Nellie[/name], [name]Shelly[/name], [name]Kelly[/name], [name]Emily[/name], [name]Elise[/name], or [name]Ellen[/name]. I have also been called [name]Ellie[/name] [name]May[/name] by more than one elderly adult even after I told them that is not my full name. It didn’t bother me, I answered to all of those names, haha. I also respond to my sister’s names/nicknames.

My name is [name]Ashley[/name]. Which, you’d think it’s not that complicated, lol. But I’ve seen it spelled [name]Ashely[/name] way more times than I have ever wanted it to. It’s two syllables. [name]Ash[/name]. [name]Lee[/name]. Not [name]Ash[/name]-uh-lee. [name]Ashely[/name] just looks misspelled and a trendy hot mess, lol.

Possibly more funny, though, was that someone once thought my MN ([name]Marie[/name]) was said like [name]Mary[/name]. I would have thought [name]Marie[/name] was obvious enough!

My name is [name]Emily[/name] and I haven’t had any issues… However my sister is named Chloé and has been called [name]Clo[/name], [name]Cleo[/name], [name]Clay[/name]-ee, Ch-lowee, Cho-lay and I kid you not… See-hole.

Now we are adults and Chloé is more popular this isn’t really an issue.

Lol @ Emilylikewhoa!

My hubby is [name]Sean[/name]. We all know it’s pronounced ‘shawn’, but he gets called “Seen” all the time!

Nope, never in my life has anyone ever mispronounced my name. It’s [name]Kim[/name]. Unless you have a speech impediment I think it’s pretty impossible

I’m [name]Cady[/name]. I’m usually called Caddy (as in shower caddy), but sometimes I get called [name]Cody[/name] by people who just glance at my name. It’s terrible! I appreciate my fairly unique name though.

For some reason [name]Carissa[/name] is hard to pronounce. People always say [name]Clarissa[/name] (especially after that irritating show [name]Clarissa[/name] Explains it All). Fun story. Introduced myself to an older gentleman. He said “Your name is [name]Clarissa[/name]?” me "no! No “L” him “Your name is [name]Noel[/name]?”

Wow, my first instinct would be to say kay-dee. Or are you saying that both of those are mispronunciations?

Mine is [name]Sarah[/name]. Adults don’t have any problems, but I’m had [name]Abba[/name], Fiya, Sawya and Yarya from various kiddos! The s and r so close together is really hard for them!!

Forgot, my grandma always moves the ‘h’ at the end if of my name to the 2nd letter spot. Making [name]Sarah[/name], turn into [name]Shara[/name]. [name]Every[/name] time!!

No, you are correct. It is pronounced like [name]Kay[/name]-dee

Well, being named [name]Tressa[/name], I have to correct almost everyone on my name when I first meet them.

[name]Ive[/name] been called [name]Tessa[/name], [name]Theresa[/name], [name]Teressa[/name], [name]Tracy[/name], Traysa, oh and my personal favorite was when an older man looked at my name tag and said “Oh. I get it. It’s Tee, like the letter T, and the rest is Reesa. T-Reesa.”
I didn’t have the heart to tell him how wrong he was.

My name is [name]Briallen[/name]. I live in [name]Wales[/name] and it means ‘[name]Primrose[/name]’ in Welsh so pretty much everyone can pronounce it. The only problem is if I go somewhere else, especially [name]England[/name]. They pronounce it like Bry-[name]Allan[/name] which bugs me. So I just say my names [name]Bree[/name]. Our surname also causes problems outside of [name]Wales[/name] because its [name]Llewellyn[/name] and most people can’t do the double L sound…
