I came across this name about a week ago and was immediately captivated. An Iranian/Afghan girl’s name that means “silvery” in Persian (could there be a lovelier meaning?!), Simin is pronounced sih-MEEN (according to behindthename.com, please let me know if I’ve got that wrong). Perfect on paper.
[name_f]My[/name_f] question is an obvious one. Is the ‘semen’ connection/mispronunciation too obvious? It would only ever be a middle name, but I can’t help but feel it’s a bit too far.
Thank you!
I am unfamiliar with this name and thought it was just a misspelling of the boys’ name [name_m]Simon[/name_m]. I think it’s really unlikely you’ll ever get the intended Sih-MEEN pronunciation unless the person already knows the name. You’d probably get the semen mispronunciation along with plenty of others. But since it’s a middle name that’s doesn’t matter as much.
I think people would pronounce it like Simmons with out the S: [name_m]Sim[/name_m]-in. I think you’d get semen too. I’d keep it on a GP list.
I know someone who has used this as a middle name - and most people mispronounced it. Lots of [name_m]Simon[/name_m], Simmon, and yes, semen. However, most people don’t know the baby’s middle name anyway. I think it’s really lovely and has a gorgeous meaning, but be careful to stress the pronunciation if you use it.
Thank you all, it would only ever be a middle name, as previously stated, so the pronunciation wouldn’t matter too much - it was just what people thought of the semen association. Thank you!
