Misty

I was shocked and saddened to learn that [name_f]Misty[/name_f] Upham died last year; such a beautiful girl and a talented actress. I’ve been thinking about her name, which seems to be pretty uncommon. I’ve only run across one [name_f]Misty[/name_f] and she wore it well.

[name_m]How[/name_m] usable is [name_f]Misty[/name_f]? I can see some people arguing that it won’t age well. On the other hand, we have [name_f]Katie[/name_f], [name_f]Zoey[/name_f], [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f], [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], and many other names with a similar sound and image that are going strong. I think we just haven’t heard it enough and it could hold its own if given a chance.

I think of the character on Pokemon, a childhood show of mine. I think it would be a cute nickname, but not a full name.

Well, [name_f]Misty[/name_f] is my dog’s name (she was named before I got her). So, for me, it will forever be linked with pets. I think of [name_f]Misty[/name_f] [name_f]May[/name_f] as well. Also, it’s not as rare as you might think. I am teaching high school right now and two of my students are [name_f]Misty[/name_f] and [name_f]Misti[/name_f], the latter is short for Mistika.

I don’t really mind it, but it doesn’t stick out as super interesting in my opinion.

I was friends with a [name_f]Misty[/name_f] growing up, and my parents know one who is like 50 or something. It’s not really my style, but it isn’t that unusual and I think it ages ok.

Fascinating…what state do you teach in? I’m from MN. and I’ve heard it a grand total of once.

I’m from the east coast of the US and I associate the name with “[name_f]Misty[/name_f] of Chincoteague” the legendary pony… Chincoteague is a small town on the eastern shore of [name_f]Virginia[/name_f] that has a wild pony swim every summer. [name_f]Marguerite[/name_f] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] wrote a book entitled “[name_f]Misty[/name_f] of Chincoteague”.

I think it is definitely usable! I am usually not a fan of short names like [name_f]Misty[/name_f] but I actually don’t mind it. It’s quite cute!

I find [name_f]Misty[/name_f] to be dated (along the same lines as [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], [name_f]Heather[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f], etc). All the Mistys I’ve known would be in their 30s and 40s by now.

My cousin is named [name_f]Misty[/name_f] and I also have a friend from high school named [name_f]Misti[/name_f]. I really like it. My cousin and I are pretty much the same age and I have been close with her since we were babies and looking back and thinking of now I definitely think it ages well. And it’s not completely unheard of but also not super used so it still feels new.

Where I am from its quite dated, and associated with poor white trash. Many of the moms of people of my age have this name. ( I am 21)

I know one [name_f]Misty[/name_f] she would be around 14 or so. She has a sister named [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] “[name_f]Indi[/name_f]”. I find it quite hippy and carefree since it was never popular here.

It makes me think of names like [name_f]Kristy[/name_f] and [name_f]Missy[/name_f] that were popular in the 70’s and 80’s. Its really not the uncommon but I think its time is over. [name_f]Zoey[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaylee[/name_f] are relatively new and thus just starting on their journey where as [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is dying off(finally) and [name_f]Katie[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are old classics that are getting a second wind. [name_f]Misty[/name_f] just feels to old to be used now but not old enough to make a come back. I’d hold off from using it if I were you. Oped out for [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Macy[/name_f], or even [name_f]Millie[/name_f].

I know a little girl called [name_f]Misty[/name_f]. She’s just adorable. This influences my opinion of the name, of course. But I think [name_f]Misty[/name_f] is usable. I like it, it’s one of my guilty pleasures.

[name_f]Misty[/name_f] and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] are so good together! [name_f]Misty[/name_f] and [name_f]Indi[/name_f]–they might sound too similar when said aloud, but they’re cute nonetheless.

I’ve never met any [name_f]Misty[/name_f]'s, and I don’t see the name very often here on Nameberry. It seems pretty under the radar to me. I quite like [name_f]Misty[/name_f]. I think it’s usable.

[name_f]Misty[/name_f] is my dog’s name as well…

My best friends (grey) cat was called [name_f]Misty[/name_f], plus a horse at the stables I used to work at. So I can’t get that out of my head. But why not use it? No weirder and more likely to date than other “nature” names like [name_u]River[/name_u], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_u]Rain[/name_u], etc. It feels more dated than them now, but won’t in 10 years time when they are all dated too…

I like [name_f]Misty[/name_f] as a name or nickname. I prefer [name_f]Misti[/name_f] abd love as nickname for Mistani.
