MN Inari?

So a bit of a backstory.

My great-great grandmother’s name is Saima. She was named after the largest lake in Finland; her home country. I also have a great aunt whose name is Saima and personally, I don’t want to use the name due to me not having a great relationship with her. Still it’d be nice to have a name connected to my Finnish heritage since it’s a huge part of who I am and how I was raised.

Which brings me to Inari. [name_u]Lake[/name_u] Inari is the third largest lake in Finland and I feel it might be the most usable name for me. It’s also a Japanese name for “carrying rice” and my great-great grandmother’s daughter, my great grandmother, got married and gave birth to my grandmother in Japan. A small and insignificant connection perhaps, but it does endear me to Inari all the more.

I thought using Inari as a middle name might be a cool way of honoring my great-great grandmother and my heritage, but I’m wondering if others like it? What would you pair with it?

I love the connections to all the different aspects to your family! Initially it wasn’t something that seemed sweet/pretty enough for my taste, if that makes sense, but it does sound strong and would work well as a middle. Plus, I’m a sucker for a good family name! It also reminds me of similar names like [name_f]Anara[/name_f]/[name_f]Anaya[/name_f] and [name_f]Imani[/name_f] and [name_f]Eleni[/name_f].

I would definitely go for it if I were you! I think something like [name_u]Winter[/name_u] Inari or [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] Inari would be lovely!

I can only think of the sushi dish. It doesn’t really seem like a person’s name at all to me, sorry.

It’s funny. I really enjoyed this name before I posted this and now as I look at it more, I find myself liking it less. Does that even make sense? IDK maybe I’m overthinking the honor names a little too much.

[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] Inari is a good suggestion. I really do appreciate your support though!

I laughed a little too hard at this. I love sushi so much they would think that’s why I picked the name. Haha thanks!

I like it and I think it’s great that it ties two cultures together.

Inari is the name of a very tasty kind of sushi. I often order it at restaurants so that is automatically what I think of when I hear this name:

Googling it now, I see that Inari is also in interesting deity in Shintoism:

On the Finnish side, it has a lovely sound, and I think the lake in Finland makes a good namesake.

I love that Inari has personal significance to you so I do hope you use it. Because of the other meanings I would use it in the middle.

I love the sound of Inari! And all the better for it’s beautiful meaning and significance in your heritage.

Some pairing ideas below. I think it works with loads of names! [name_m]Just[/name_m] not ones with too many strong r and n sounds.

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] Inari
[name_f]Opal[/name_f] Inari
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u] Inari
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] Inari
[name_f]Amabel[/name_f] Inari
[name_u]Winslow[/name_u] Inari

I want to thank everyone for their kind words and support! I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and opinions. The sushi reference has me rethinking this name, but it is not totally out of the question.

@wildmoonchild [name_f]Opal[/name_f] Inari does have me swooning! You might convince me yet!
