We’ve narrowed down our first names to our Top 4, and aren’t gonna try to narrow that down any further for now (we still have a couple of months). So now we’re pairing up middle names to go along with them. We’d like to use either [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Brandt[/name] if the flow works right (both family names that honor someone we’d like to honor). If the flow doesn’t work right, we’re okay with using [name]Charles[/name] as well (and it still honors family, just not quite as deeply as [name]Edward[/name] or [name]Brandt[/name] would).
So, what do you think of:
[name]Evander[/name] [name]Brandt[/name]
[name]Amias[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Edward[/name]
[name]Emrys[/name] [name]Charles[/name] (do you think [name]Brandt[/name] would work here?)
[name]Do[/name] you think there are any different combinations, with these four first names and three middle names, that would flow together better?
Ooh, nice ones! Good top 4! I actually like [name]Brandt[/name] with both [name]Emrys[/name] and [name]Amias[/name] more than the ones you’ve got up there (and [name]Jasper[/name] too actually, now that I think of it!). Poor [name]Edward[/name], though. I just really love the boldness of [name]Brandt[/name] after those beautiful soft first names.
[name]Lovely[/name] list, you’ve really done an amazing job at this list.
I like [name]Amias[/name] [name]Edward[/name] the best, followed by [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Charles[/name]. I do think [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] could work–I just like [name]Charles[/name] more!
Oh I love [name]Brandt[/name] as a mn.
[name]Evander[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] is so handsome I’d pick it in a heartbeat. (Though I might be proned to call your son by his fn & mn at all times).
My second choice would be [name]Jasper[/name] and I like [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] a lot.
[name]Evander[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] - Good combo. [name]Evander[/name] is usually not my style but it’s nice with [name]Brandt[/name].
[name]Amias[/name] [name]Edward[/name] - Very handsome.
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Edward[/name] - This one is very Twilight to me and I try to avoid thinking that way because I love the name [name]Jasper[/name]. [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] or [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Charles[/name] would both be very nice.
[name]Emrys[/name] [name]Charles[/name] (do you think [name]Brandt[/name] would work here?) - I like [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Charles[/name] but I think [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] would work too. I love [name]Emrys[/name] btw.
Thanks for the replies!
By the way, my concern with pairing [name]Emrys[/name] with [name]Brandt[/name] was less about the sound and more about the look. [name]Emrys[/name] has such a distinctly Welsh spelling (that can look a bit “abnormal” to some), and [name]Brandt[/name] has such a distinct [name]German[/name] spelling (that can look a bit “abnormal” to some), that I was worried they might seem a little strange paired up together as [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Brandt[/name]. Is this an unnecessary worry?
@ottilie- I definitely see what your saying about the boldness of [name]Brandt[/name] pairing up well with the softer first names. I’ll have to keep that in mind. The more I say the names with [name]Brandt[/name] the more I can see the advantage of what you’re saying. By the way, I just noticed, from your signature, that you had a baby last month. Congratulations!
@ash- Yeah, I really like [name]Charles[/name] with [name]Emrys[/name] quite a lot too (much moreso than with any of the other 3 top first name options), but if [name]Brandt[/name] works (see my specific concern above), the specific family member we’d be honoring is who we’d like to honor (it’s my great grandfather’s last name- a very big-hearted, expressive, joyful man who was the headliner for a semi-famous jazz band of his time).
@lex- I also greatly appreciate how [name]Evander[/name] and [name]Brandt[/name] just go together so perfectly. It’s like they were made to paired up together.
@christa- Thanks for pointing out that [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Edward[/name] are both Twilight related names. I used to know that, but had forgotten (never have actually seen the movie). Good thing I’m coming around to liking [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] better than [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Edward[/name]!
OOh I’m going to throw a spanner in the works and say [name]Evander[/name] [name]Edward[/name]. Rolls off the tongue! [name]Say[/name] it a few times you’ll get what I mean. PLus if he wants to down the track he can shorten it to [name]Evan[/name] (also one of my favorites) .[name]Emrys[/name] is great too, I’ve never heard it before, but I really like it!
@erin- I do hear a bit of the roll off the tongue with [name]Evander[/name] [name]Edward[/name] (and the alliteration thing really doesn’t bother me very often, as it does with some people). But [name]Evander[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] just sounds so perfect together, it’d be hard for me to consider a different middle name. [name]Glad[/name] to hear you like [name]Emrys[/name], it’s made me happy how many people seem to like this name so much.
@tfzo- I do agree that [name]Charles[/name] goes really well with [name]Evander[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name], but if I can I’m gonna try to use either [name]Brandt[/name] or [name]Edward[/name] just because of the more significant family connection ([name]Charles[/name] has one too, but [name]Edward[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] is who were really looking to honor if we can). I do hear what your saying about the hissing Ss with [name]Emrys[/name] and [name]Charles[/name]. I do like the sound of [name]Emrys[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] better, just a bit concerned with the distinct Welsh spelling paired up with the distinct [name]German[/name] spelling, both can seem like somewhat strange spellings to your average English speaker. Perhaps that doesn’t matter in the decision process, but it is something I’ve been reflecting on.
[name]Evander[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] sounds a bit sing-songy to me, to be honest. The names run into each-other and kind of sound like one long name… it’s probably just me though, because there seems to be a lot of love for this combo.
I prefer [name]Evander[/name] [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Evander[/name] [name]Edward[/name].
[name]Emrys[/name] [name]Charles[/name] and [name]Amias[/name] [name]Edward[/name] are gorgeous too!
@wattle- Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I understand why you perceive a sing songiness with the [name]Evander[/name] [name]Brandt[/name] pronunciation, and usually I’m not a big fan of sing songy flows like this, cuz it does definitely have a sing-songy quality, but in this case I just really like that aspect of it. I kind of like that it almost sounds like one long name, almost makes me feel like they were originally made as one name that was at some point separated into two, and they’ve now managed to reunite as long lost brothers.
