Modern nicknames for Edith?

I just want to start by saying I’m not pregnant or planning on having a child, I just want to change my name because my birth name reminds me of trauma and I feel like it will help me to change it. (Idk if that’s a dumb reason though haha) [name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother was a huge part of my life and I’m still influenced by her. Her middle name was [name_f]Edith[/name_f], which apparently means prosperous in war, and I think that name is perfect because she was very spiritual and would always say I was a warrior in a spiritual sense, and my name has a fighting/war meaning. I really hate [name_f]Edie[/name_f] because I think it’s way too cute sounding, and I don’t really know any other nicknames or variations of [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. Sorry if didn’t give enough information and thanks in advance if anyone responds.

Welcome to Nameberry!! Would you like nicknames/variations for [name_f]Edith[/name_f], middle names for [name_f]Edith[/name_f], or just opinions? Or more than one of those things? Good luck in your name search!

That sounds like a very special name.

Edie is the most instinctive nickname, I think, so some of these might be a stretch:
[name_f]Dotty[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_m]Ed[/name_m]
[name_m]Eddie[/name_m]

I think [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is perfectly lovely on its own, though!

Any of those would be fine lol

If you don’t like [name_f]Edie[/name_f], maybe try [name_f]Eda[/name_f] (pronounced ee-da). It’s the name of a character from the [name_u]Owl[/name_u] House and there’s nothing cutsie about her.

I do kind of like that, thanks

Deedee
[name_f]Eda[/name_f] (eed-a)
[name_f]Dita[/name_f]
[name_u]Eden[/name_u]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Dia[/name_f] (dee-a)
[name_f]Ettie[/name_f] / [name_m]Eddie[/name_m]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f] / [name_f]Edda[/name_f]
Edite

lol I would like this if I hadn’t run out. I’m honestly so dumb it literally says nicknames right in the title, I genuinely wish this was the first time I’d done something like this!

A bunch of nicknames have already been suggested, but if you’re okay with nicknames that are very much a stretch, [name_f]Dilly[/name_f] or [name_u]Eden[/name_u]? Those are really not intuitive though. Ditte is one variation, or [name_f]Edythe[/name_f] or [name_f]Edita[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Edith[/name_f] is actually perfectly usable as is!

(Oh as I posted this I see @kidpix21 thought of [name_u]Eden[/name_u] too so I’m glad to see someone else thinks it’s a possibility!)

There’s a lot of those that I really like, thank you

Edita is nice and I kind of like Ditte, and I also feel kind of dumb because I’ve been looking for nicknames for a while and I haven’t even considered most of what people are saying lol

Oh no not at all! In my experience it’s waaay harder to come up with a nickname for a name you’re using than a name someone else is using.

If you don’t like [name_f]Edie[/name_f] I wouldn’t use a nickname. Another option is to make one from your initials or even a middle name.

Love [name_f]Edith[/name_f]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Eda[/name_f]. Ee-da.

Sorry for repeats

Besides [name_f]Edie[/name_f] how about

Eddy
[name_u]Teddy[/name_u]
If you pick a A middle name you can also use [name_f]Etta[/name_f].

Edith is beautiful and I love the sentimental value it hold for you.

I knew an [name_f]Edith[/name_f] who went by Diddy but we grew up as 90’s kids and puff daddy was constantly changing his name

Edith I can see nicknames [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Tia[/name_f] , [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] , [name_f]Eda[/name_f], [name_f]Edda[/name_f], [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]

Effie
[name_f]Dee[/name_f]
[name_f]Etta[/name_f]
