Modern Twist on Gunther

We are expecting twins and are giving our littles family names with a twist. With that in mind, we’ve narrowed it down to two names for girls and one for boys. Since we aren’t finding out the genders until they’re born, we want to be ready with names. For the second boy name, we want something that evokes [name_m]Gunther[/name_m] without being so …harsh sounding. Ideas? Suggestions? Help, please!

You could look for a name with a similar sound or other names that also mean “warrior.”

I don’t find [name_m]Gunther[/name_m] all that harsh sounding, to be honest. It’s friendlier than the similar [name_m]Gunnar[/name_m]/[name_m]Gunner[/name_m] and softer when given the English (as opposed to [name_m]German[/name_m]) pronunciation. But assuming you continue to be uncomfortable with [name_m]Gunther[/name_m], would you rather look for similar sounds or similar meanings? The name [name_m]Guy[/name_m] (seriously underutilized, in my opinion) happens to have a similar sound and meaning.

Hmmm… I was going to suggest [name_m]Gunter[/name_m], but its even harsher sounding. Guyver maybe?

[name_m]Gunther[/name_m] is very similar to [name_m]Gunner[/name_m], but as someone else already mentioned, [name_m]Gunner[/name_m] may be harsher than [name_m]Gunther[/name_m], as the “th” sound “softens” the gun prefix of the name.(could [name_m]Gunther[/name_m] be used as a middle name?)
Names similar to [name_m]Gunther[/name_m]/[name_m]Gunner[/name_m]:
Augustan or [name_u]August[/name_u] (share letters with [name_m]Gunther[/name_m])

[name_m]Garner[/name_m] or [name_m]Grant[/name_m]

[name_m]Luther[/name_m] or [name_f]Garnet[/name_f]

[name_m]Gareth[/name_m] or [name_m]Garrett[/name_m]

[name_m]Greyson[/name_m] or [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] or [name_m]Griffith[/name_m]

Combo ideas to use gunther Letters:

[name_m]Greyson[/name_m] [name_u]Theo[/name_u] or [name_u]Theo[/name_u] [name_m]Greyson[/name_m]

[name_u]Hunter[/name_u] (closest I’ve come to incorporating all the letters) -maybe [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] [name_m]Giovanni[/name_m] or [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] G_____? -that would use all of the letters…

I’m not sure what you mean by “evokes [name_m]Gunther[/name_m] without sounding so harsh”?? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you mean another Germanic name? Another name that begins with G?

I’m just going to throw some stuff out there and see what sticks.

To clarify - hubby-dearest is not fond of the overtly Germanic name. However, I really love using [name_m]Gunther[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Guy[/name_m]! Might have just changed my mind from moving it to a middle name spot!

Thanks, all!
