Molly- outdated?

Is the name Molly a 90s-esque outdated name to you? Really trying to settle on a girl name. Tops have been Phoebe, Molly, Rosie and Charlotte. Molly seems to be what we agree on but I feel like idk last I heard besides millennials I grew up with. Thanks!

I personally think it is a bit dated…

Definitely doesn’t feel outdated to me! I could see why, but my brain sees [name_f]Molly[/name_f] as energetic, happy, and fun. She reminds me of [name_f]Lottie[/name_f]. :upside_down_face:

[name_f]Molly[/name_f] is timeless! I know Mollys in their 40s, 30s, teens, and toddler years. Not outdated, in my opinion.

I know what you mean but if you both love it that’s more important.

No I wouldn’t say its dated. It does have a bit of nostalgia attached to it, but if i were to see the name molly written down, I would have no idea what age she may be. And to me thats really qhat makes a name dated (like Carol is probably going to be over 50 & Jessica will be around 30 & Michelle will be in her 40’s etc) but Molly could be 10 or 80.

I agree with others that [name_f]Molly[/name_f] feels pretty timeless. I think of [name_f]Molly[/name_f] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] (“the unsinkable [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Brown” who was on the Titanic) as well as [name_f]Molly[/name_f] Ringwald, plus a baby [name_f]Molly[/name_f] who I know. So that’s a pretty big timespan, and the name works equally well for all three.

[name_f]Molly[/name_f] is absolutely timeless! In fact, it’s the name of the baby I know born most recently! I’ve also known a few [name_f]Gen[/name_f] Z Mollys and a [name_f]Mollie[/name_f] in her fifties.

It’s a very sweet and warm and nostalgic name, but also a name that can suit anyone — sporty, smart, hilarious, confident, timid, etc.

I LOVE the name [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and it would’ve been my 3rd girl name if I had had one. It’s a classic and will never be outdated, it’s timeless and sweet

I do find it a little dated, but seems totally wearable still for a baby of today. I guess it would even be fresher than a lot of names commonly used now.
personally, I don’t like it because of a certain negative association (if “popping” rings a bell). But I think I’m in the minority there so I wouldn’t worry about it, just something to consider if you’re trying to narrow it down.
as for your other three names, [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] is pretty but very popular right now if that concerns you. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] are right at the sweet spot of very familiar but you don’t hear them everyday, plus they are just cute names, so my vote goes to them  I also think the names [name_f]Holly[/name_f] or [name_f]Callie[/name_f] would be sweet for you

I don’t think so - I’ve encountered a few little Mollys - it doesn’t feel specifically tied to the 90s to me

It doesn’t seem dated to me, but maybe because I’m in the US, and it was not a popular name in the 90’s here! [name_f]Molly[/name_f] is one of my favorite names, and the only [name_f]Molly[/name_f] I know just turned 3! I think it’s a cute name with a lot of positive name sharers

From my US perspective I don’t think it was ever popular enough to feel dated. I think it has a sweet vintage quality but the kind of vintage that’s back in fashion now and not grandmotherly. I would be delighted to meet a little [name_f]Molly[/name_f].

Doesn’t seem dated to me! I’m not sure where you’re from, but if you’re from the UK, I knew 2 different Mollys under the age of 7 when I lived there a couple of years ago! In fact, it was still in the top 100 most popular names of [name_f]England[/name_f], [name_f]Scotland[/name_f], [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], Australia and [name_m]New[/name_m] [name_m]Zealand[/name_m] for 2022 & 2023, so it definitely doesn’t feel like a name that’s gone out of style. And it’s such a darling & sweet choice, I personally love [name_f]Molly[/name_f]!

it’s not dated, just overused
