What are your opinions on month names? Is it weird to be named after your birth month or is it weirder to be named after a month that you weren’t born in?
Is it different for more established month names like May, April, August and June vs rarer month names like October, January, March etc.
- Its weirder to be named after your birth month.
- Its weirder to be named after a month you weren’t born in
- It doesn’t matter either way.
- It depends on how common the name is.
And if you choose that it depends on the usage, do you think a rarer month name should be named after their birth month or not?
If your name is [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_u]August[/name_u] then it is fine even if you were not born in [name_u]June[/name_u], [name_f]May[/name_f] or [name_u]August[/name_u], in my opinion (especially [name_u]August[/name_u] which comes from [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] and is not exactly related to the month at the start), but if your name is [name_u]July[/name_u] then I would find weirder that someone is not born in [name_u]July[/name_u] or them / their parents / family etc have no honour or connection to it, but in general I would not judge anyone since people should use the name they love, those are just my own thoughts

the key part being weirder for me. I don’t think using a month/day/season name is unusable if the child was born in that month/day/season, it just seems too on-the-nose for me.
the W!nter I know was born in [name_u]November[/name_u], the [name_f]May[/name_f] (alt spelling though) was born in [name_u]January[/name_u], the [name_u]August[/name_u] was born in July… and I know too many Autumns to recall their birthdays!
I don’t think it really matters - but maybe there’s something that feels a bit ‘lazy’ about naming a kid after the month they were born in?
I don’t think it truly matters, but I have honestly never encountered someone with a month name that wasn’t also their birthmonth so I would definitely be surprised by it (and same is true of weekday names)
I think it’s slightly more weird to be named after your own birth month (but still fine, I don’t mind it).
We considered using [name_u]November[/name_u] / Nóvember as a middle name for our youngest because it has a special significance for us. He was due in [name_u]January[/name_u], but because he was born at 30+5 weeks he’s a [name_u]November[/name_u] baby. I’d still have used [name_u]November[/name_u] if I’d absolutely loved it, but it would have given me pause.
