Moose

What do you think of [name_m]Moose[/name_m] as a name or nickname? Ideas for full names?

Would be super cute as a nickname for [name_u]Moses[/name_u]! I personally don’t think [name_m]Moose[/name_m] is substantial enough to stand on its own.

I think [name_m]Moose[/name_m] would be exceptionally odd as a given name. As a nickname? Sure.

whatever floats your boat

[name_m]Moose[/name_m] is cute. I prefer it as a nn, but I think it would fit in fine with kids named [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_m]Wolfe[/name_m] etc.

The [name_m]Archie[/name_m] comic series has a character named [name_m]Marmaduke[/name_m] nn [name_m]Moose[/name_m].

[name_u]Mason[/name_u]
[name_m]Mccoy[/name_m] [name_m]Seamus[/name_m]
[name_m]Malcolm[/name_m] [name_u]Scott[/name_u]
[name_m]Massimo[/name_m]
[name_u]Montgomery[/name_u] [name_m]Stuart[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Marlon[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]

Very strange as an actual name! [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] if he was overweight.

Maybe as a nickname for:
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]
[name_u]Maurice[/name_u]
[name_u]Mason[/name_u]

I don’t think it comes as a particularly natural nickname though.

[name_u]Moses[/name_u] called [name_m]Moose[/name_m] would be my choice if I wanted to use [name_m]Moose[/name_m]. It’s absolutely darling as a nickname but feels more like calling your kid Dog and not [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] if it was used as a first name.

A cute family pet name, maybe, but not a full name. People where I live sometimes say ā€œyou mooseā€ to mean (affectionately) that someone’s being a bit of an idiot or a bit foolish. It’s quite endearing as a pet name for [name_u]Moses[/name_u] or [name_m]Morris[/name_m] though!

Ditto to @katinka comments. Where I live it is sometimes used to reference someone who’s a large, clumsy person. Okay as a family pet name but I wouldn’t want to use it socially.

I’ve never heard of [name_m]Moose[/name_m] being used as an insult so I’m sure that’s a regional thing and of course if you lived in an area where that’s used then I wouldn’t use it as a name, but I think it’s doable where I live (northeast USA). I don’t love the sound, but I also don’t love [name_u]Tiger[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], or [name_u]Fox[/name_u] and those are all somewhat common names. So basically, would I personally use it? No. But should you? Sure, if it’s the name you love. I’ve heard plenty of objectively worse names.

[name_f]My[/name_f] cousin’s nickname is [name_m]Moose[/name_m], no real reason as it doesnt relate to his name, but we’ve always called him that. It’s a cute pet name!

I could certainly see it as a nickname! Perhaps for [name_m]Moises[/name_m]?

Everyone: Wolf is fantastic! I love Lark! Hawk and Fox are so cool! Wren and Robin are such sweet names.

Also Everyone: Moose? Exceptionally odd. Whatever floats your boat. Very strange.

I think usage makes the difference. When a name is used (and even just talked about), people then see it as a ā€˜name’ and not just as an animal or color or word. I wonder if long long ago when Scarlett was first used, everyone thought how very strange it was to name your child Red. Willow? You named your baby after a tree? Whatever floats your boat…

I think Moose fits in with other animal names and also the ever so popular ā€˜s’ ending names for boys. I know a kid named Musa (Moo-suh), and can see Moose being a nickname for that.

[name_m]Moose[/name_m] works with today’s [name_u]Fox[/name_u], [name_m]Bear[/name_m], [name_m]Hunt[/name_m], [name_m]Fisher[/name_m], [name_m]Talon[/name_m], and [name_u]Wolf[/name_u].

Maybe he’d like a more formal name, although there’s never been a better time to stick with casual. I’m not a nn person, so I’d name [name_m]Moose[/name_m], [name_m]Moose[/name_m], but

[name_u]Moses[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_u]Morley[/name_u] [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]

Mu could be a [name_m]Moose[/name_m] I think. I like the idea of [name_u]Moses[/name_u] but the sound is wrong.
