Berries,
Thanks to all of your help, and after further conversations with my husband, we are now CLOSER on an agreed upon list of names for our pending new arrival, little brother or sister to [name]Rowan[/name]. Middle name for boy will most likely be Learson unless it really doesn’t “go” and middle name for girl [name]Katherine[/name] unless the same, after mother in law who passed away this year. [name]Kate[/name] is a better fit with some of the girls’ names I think but my husband doesn’t think it’s honoring his mom to use her nickname as middle name vs. [name]Katherine[/name] in full so think it needs to be [name]Katherine[/name]…
Appreciate your feedback on the below (or of course other additions!)
Girls (still having a tougher time with these):
[name]June[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] (still MY favorite, husband likes --loves [name]Mattie[/name] nickname-- but prefers [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Eloise[/name], and [name]Mae[/name])
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name]
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]/[name]Gwendolen[/name]
[name]Lorelei[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]
[name]Hi[/name]! From your girls’ list I like [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Gwendolen[/name] the most (I prefer the spelling ‘[name]Gwendolen[/name]’ over the -lyn ending because I think in [name]Wales[/name] the -lyn ending is masculine). [name]Gwendolen[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] sound magical together :), however I think [name]Matilda[/name] sounds better with the middle name [name]Katherine[/name].
From your boys’ list I love [name]Henry[/name] :).
I think I have to go with the husband on this one, [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] is definitely my favourite as a sibling for [name]Rowan[/name]. I don’t really like the name [name]Matilda[/name] but it does flow beautifully with [name]Katherine[/name].
For boys, I think [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Soren[/name] is kind of a mouthful. But I do like [name]Cole[/name]. [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Cole[/name] is cute mind you, [name]Cole[/name] Learson kind of runs together. I’m undecided on whether or not I like [name]Quincy[/name]. What about [name]Quinten[/name]/[name]Quentin[/name]? I much prefer it to [name]Quincy[/name] personally and I think it sounds great with [name]Rowan[/name].
([name]LOVE[/name] the name [name]Rowan[/name] by the way.)
I like [name]Skye[/name] best with [name]Rowan[/name], however, [name]Skylar[/name]/[name]Schuyler[/name] Learson doesn’t sound the best. [name]Henry[/name] seems a bit boring next to [name]Rowan[/name] for me. I like [name]Casper[/name] Learson, but don’t care for [name]Casper[/name] with [name]Rowan[/name]. [name]Lorelei[/name] is my favorite on the girls’ side with [name]Rowan[/name], and it think it’s fabulous with [name]Katherine[/name]. My second choice for a girl would be [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Matilda[/name].
Okay, personally I love [name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Skyler[/name]! With the girls, something more feminine would work well because [name]Rowan[/name] is not quite a gender specific name (though I love [name]Rowan[/name] for a little boy!). For boys… I just think [name]Skyler[/name] works well with [name]Rowan[/name]
I recently met a 4-year-old boy named [name]Rowan[/name] (love the name, btw!) and he has a 6-mos.-old baby brother named [name]Cole[/name]. Personally, I think the name [name]Cole[/name] pales in comparison to [name]Rowan[/name]–the sib-set seemed quite mismatched to me in that way.
Anyway, my favorites from your lists are [name]Soren[/name] & [name]June[/name], but with [name]Rowan[/name] I do like [name]Quincy[/name] for a boy…
I adore the name [name]June[/name] and think it would be lovely with [name]Rowan[/name].
Best!!
[name]Rowan[/name] & [name]June[/name] (said aloud and written down, these two names “feel” like a team!).
[name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Mae[/name] ([name]Maeve[/name] would be an even better option).
Honorable mentions: [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name].
[name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Henry[/name] (I like this duo and I think [name]Henry[/name] has the best flow with the mn Learson).
[name]Rowan[/name] & [name]Quincy[/name] (two spunky names).
Honorable mention: [name]Schuyler[/name] (the name isn’t the best with the mn Learson but I do like it with [name]Rowan[/name]. The only drawback: the popularity and spelling variations of the name).
I agree with the person who suggested [name]Maeve[/name] (and [name]Mae[/name] can always be a nickname) but I also like [name]June[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name] for girls. They’re really nice with [name]Rowan[/name]. As for boys, I like [name]Casper[/name], [name]Henry[/name] and [name]Soren[/name].
[name]Skyler[/name]/[name]Schuyler[/name]/[name]Skye[/name] is nice, but often used for girls as well. Something to consider. [name]Cole[/name] doesn’t seem to fit with [name]Rowan[/name]. I don’t care for [name]Casper[/name], as it still reminds me of [name]Casper[/name] the Friendly Ghost! I’m not a fan of [name]Soren[/name] either, though it seems to get a lot of love on nameberry. I don’t like that it contains the word “sore.”
[name]Henry[/name] is the winner in my book!
As for the girls names, I like [name]June[/name] and [name]Gwendolyn[/name]/en. I’m on the fence about the ending for [name]Gwen[/name]; I tend to prefer the commonest spellings, and in the US that would be [name]Gwendolyn[/name]. I believe the original spelling uses the -en, but I would worry so much about the masculine/feminine dichotomy for this one as it’s never used for men–even in [name]Wales[/name]. I think the yn/en issue matters more for the [name]Gwen[/name] syllable ([name]Gwyn[/name] IS a male name) than for the lyn ending.
Wow, I love your whole list! [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Henry[/name] is adorable, as is [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Eloise[/name], [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] and [name]Rowan[/name] and [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Coralie[/name] is beautiful but I’m not a fan of it paired with [name]Rowan[/name]. Oh, and have you considered the name [name]Alice[/name]? I think that’s adorable with [name]Rowan[/name].
Oh, and one quick and kind of stupid question, is your [name]Rowan[/name] a boy or a girl? I think it’s more common as a boy’s name, but the only Rowans I know are girls, so I figured I’d ask.
My favorites of your girls’ names are [name]Camille[/name], [name]Coralie[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], and [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]. I think they all go well with [name]Rowan[/name]. (Though it would help to know if [name]Rowan[/name] is a girl or a boy.)
The only one I think goes well with [name]Katherine[/name], though, is [name]Mae[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]May[/name] [name]Katherine[/name]. I don’t think the others sound good with [name]Katherine[/name].
Of your boys’ names, I like [name]Henry[/name], [name]Cole[/name], and [name]Quincy[/name]. Those are all great names.
None of those names really sound good with Learson, but you could still use it if it means a lot to you.
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Katherine[/name] is beautiful. [name]Eloise[/name] was on our list until we discovered we’re having a boy! So I like that too. Also like [name]Gwendolyn[/name] and nn [name]Gwen[/name].
