Morgan, Ashley, and Samatha and other dated names?

Are these names dated? Would you use them today? I really like them, but I feel like they were used widely back in the 80s at least in my neck of the woods.

I’ve also been thinking about different versions of [name_u]Ashley[/name_u]. If I were to go with the Irish name [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] (pronounced [name_u]Ash[/name_u]-ling or [name_u]Ash[/name_u]-lyn), which spelling would you use:

Ashlynn (not a fan of this one)
[name_f]Ashlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Ashlen[/name_f]
[name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] (this is the original and I love it, but no one will know how to pronounce it)

I don’t find [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] very dated, but thats because I only know some that are my age or younger. I do find [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] a little dated, I don’t know why though (I know some that are my age and younger, but I guess they just have that sound if that makes sense to you). From that list, the only one I would use is [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] because [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] are all nms.

For [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] spellings, it depends on how you want people to pronounce it. For [name_u]Ash[/name_u]-ling, I think I’d go with something like the original spelling or [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]. For [name_u]Ash[/name_u]-lyn, I would just spell it phonetically as [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] with only one n.

I think they’re a little dated, but they’re nice names and still very much usable. I think [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] is the prettiest spelling of the name and may not pose as many pronunciation problems as you think, it’s pretty familiar as Irish names go and the pronunciation isn’t that far off from the phonetic one you might guess from the spelling.

A little dated but unexpected today! I think they’re still usable

I like the [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] spelling or [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] is too hard to learn

I like [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]/Aislinn, though I am sure it comes with plenty of pronunciation issues. Still, it’s so sweet, and a great alternative to [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], which is pretty dated, yes. I think it’s usable, even if you have to correct people the first few times. Once everyone gets familiar with it, you shouldn’t have too much of a problem. What’s important is that you use the name you love, and if that name is [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f], you should go for it!

Morgan and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] don’t seem quite as dated because they were not as popular as [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and her various spellings, but they do seem pretty attached to the '90s/early '00s. Definitely not unusable, though!

Thank you everyone for the opinions! There’s a friend of the family who named her daughter [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] (nn [name_u]Toni[/name_u]) about 10 years ago and have loved the [name_u]Ash[/name_u] name ever since, but I also love names like [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] (nn [name_u]Sami[/name_u]). Such hard decisions lol.

I do consider all of them to be dated. With the exception of [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] on a boy. If you really like them though, then you can absolutely still use them! I pronounce [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f] as ash-lyn, but the one I know in real life says ae-zlyn.

I adore dated names - [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is one S/O and I like for both genders, and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f]'s on our list too  [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] is already used in my family, so unfortunately that one’s out for me, but I think it’s really sweet as well. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] is still in the US top 100, and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] have only fallen out of the top 100 within the last 10 years, so I wouldn’t call them dated, per se.

I think my favourite is actually [name_f]Aisling[/name_f], but of your options I like [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] or [name_f]Aislinn[/name_f]!

I actually like [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]! Of yours, though, probably [name_f]Ashlynn[/name_f]. I thin they’re a little dated, but not too dated.

I like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] for a boy, and I don’t think that it’s dated! I went to school with so many girls called [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] they seem very trendy 80s style names to me personally.
