[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] - a long term favourite of my husband’s. He just loves the living hell out of it, has for all the years I’ve known him. I am not normally into unisex names on girls, but he really is relating it to the Arthurian legends. He finds the 12th C. QUITE long enough ago to be feminine precedent.
What do you think of it? [name_f]Do[/name_f] we like it, Nameberry? I’ve said it so many times I’m no longer sure WHAT I think. Break it down for me, it’s [name_f]Monday[/name_f] and I cannot brain today.
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] doesn’t do it for me-- for a girl, anyway. I like it all right for a boy. I don’t think it feels feminine at all. Probably because it has the word “organ” in it, I don’t know. Actually, the more I say it, the less attractive it feels-- boy or girl. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]. I think of morgues and brains.
[name_f]Morgana[/name_f]? Yes. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]… not so much.
I actually love the name [name_f]Megan[/name_f], and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is sufficiently similar enough to it that I think it is a nice name.
In all honesty, I love the meaning of it and the fact that it is a Welsh name.
If he loves it that much, I’d just give into the name as I think that the point of naming your child is giving something you love more than anything else in the world, a name that is that special to you.
I’d pick a middle name I liked and/or agree to name the next child.
I’m not too much a fan of the compromise route especially for people with polar naming styles as you both end up with a name you don’t particularly care for, I’d rather at least one parent love the name.
This isn’t a unisex name, it’s a boy’s name. And it’s fabulous – on a boy. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]? More distinctive and gender-appropriate.
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is beautiful. I do prefer [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgaine[/name_f], but [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is still wonderful. There’s also [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f]. She’s not [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] le [name_f]Fay[/name_f]; I have no idea if one has anything to do with the other honestly, or can’t recall. I love mythology, but I’m no pro. [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] was one of the Tuatha de Danann (I’m sure I butchered the spelling, sorry), and was there when they defeated the Firbolg. I don’t like a lot of unisex names, but this is one I truly love for either gender, and I agree that it’s been used on the girls side long enough to be one of the few names that is truly unisex. I think it was spelled [name_u]Morgen[/name_u] originally, but I could be way off! I did a lot of reading on [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] years and years ago (more than 15) when I first read The Mists of [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] and became obsessed with her, but it’s all gone a bit fuzzy.
I don’t dislike the name at all, I don’t particularly love it either.
I used to be a real stickler when it came to unisex names. I thought they didn’t exist. But I have really loosened up about it. In this day and age, no one who isn’t really knowledgable about the history of names is going to think it’s odd for a girl to be named [name_u]Morgan[/name_u]. It had been feminized by popular use, even if people don’t like to admit it.
Personally, I don’t like the “morgue” sound. So I’m not a huge fan.
But at the end of the day, if your husband truly loves it, that should be your biggest deciding factor.
I do think of the actress [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] [name_m]Fairchild[/name_m] so it seems feminine enough to me. I think it is great, strong name for a girl and I would choose a soft, feminine name for a middle name.
I too prefer [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], but mostly because I just prefer the ‘ahnuh’ sound to ‘uhn’, and not because it seems more feminine etc. What does your husband think of [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]? Good luck!
ooo. I’m having a very [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] la [name_f]Faye[/name_f] morning today.
I also think of [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] as a boys name.
However, I did go to school with a girl [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and it suited her well.
If you don’t totally dig it, the character [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] la [name_f]Faye[/name_f] was also referred to as [name_f]Morgane[/name_f], [name_f]Morgaine[/name_f], [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]. All of which are more specific to her - I feel - maybe one of them would appeal to your hubby. (I really like [name_f]Morgaine[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgana[/name_f]).
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is perfectly unisex. [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] le [name_f]Fay[/name_f] has been [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Morgen[/name_u] (the original), [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Morgane[/name_f] and [name_f]Morgaine[/name_f] from she first appeared in the Arthurian legends. While it was indeed a male name before the invention of the enchantress, now it is just as much a girl name as a boy name.
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] le [name_f]Fay[/name_f] was based on something called Morgans/Morgens in Welsh folklore, they’re beautiful water spirits who lure men underwater so they drown.
Redwoodfay; [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] le [name_f]Fay[/name_f] are two separate beings; the mor- sounds aren’t even related. But they do indeed sound alike.
My name is [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], and I used to not like my name. I thought that it was ugly and not feminine. Now I like it. I have known just a few people with the same name, all of which were female. I think it’s a unique name without being out-there or made it. It’s pretty and I like the meaning. So, go for it. Especially if your husband likes it.
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is one of the few unisex names I like. Not only does it have a wonderful Welsh mythological pedigree, I like the connection to architect [name_f]Julia[/name_f] [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] who was a pioneer in her male-dominated field and designed some of the most beautiful architecture.
Hmm…
In my eyes [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is a boy’s name. I love [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] for a boy he sounds so masculine and handsome. But for a girl it’s just the total opposite of what I want in my girl’s names. Girls names need to be (in my eyes) pretty, feminine, strong, and generally frilly. My favourite girls names are [name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Angelica[/name_f]. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] doesn’t fit the bill. But I think [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] could work as a middle name paired with an ultra feminine choice.

[name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is one of the unisex names I’ve always appreciated on both genders. I feel it’s rather dated now, so I wouldn’t want a little [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] (of either gender!), but I do like it still. I too prefer [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], but maybe it’s because it has a more ethereal feel, a more feminine feel, and it has more feminine nns ([name_f]Ana[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f]). My former principal was a Mr. [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], and he went by Morg–which suited his zany, personal, compassionate, silly, serious approach completely. He wasn’t a normal principal, lol. But I don’t find Morg to be terribly flattering for a little girl. I think [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] is fab, but I like [name_f]Morgana[/name_f] even more (which, btw, I’ve always said morg-[name_f]Anna[/name_f], more than mor-GAH-nah, and I like it better with the [name_f]Anna[/name_f] sound, but I’m about 97% sure I’m in the wrong. :)). Plus, I just think of [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] from [name_m]Chuck[/name_m]–which doesn’t help to put me in mind of [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] as a girls’ name, but hey, maybe she’ll be geeky and grow up loving that sort of stuff.
