note, this is not my choice, this is my sister’s baby.
so we found out in late [name_u]October[/name_u] of last year that my cousin who has been like a sister to me my whole life is expecting a baby with her fiance and a few weeks ago we found out she’s having a girl. as excited as I am, I can’t get over the name she has chosen.
[name_f]Morticia[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
yes, she is planning to name her baby after the Addams family. don’t get me wrong. I love the name, I have even named a character in one of my books [name_f]Morticia[/name_f], but I don’t think it’s a good idea for a real baby.
so what do you guys think. is [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] an ok name for a real baby? she planning on [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] going by [name_f]Tish[/name_f].
Considering that [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] comes from the word ‘mortician’ (to make her name creepy for that comic character and such), I think it’s a lot for a real person to wear. Aside from the root of that name though… I don’t have many concerns. I mean, I think [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] is a gorgeous name! Though, the fact that that’s only a day of the week and not a rather creepy (to me) word, helps a lot. Something strong to consider.

personally i wouldn’t make that choice – morticia seems like a one-person/one-character name to me (and also quite morbid) but i don’t think it’s a problem if someone else chooses to! if this name is actually that of a real person, i’m wondering about privacy concerns for this child having their quite unusual name posted online, and in a forum that invites people to share opinions on it that were unasked-for (by the parents, at least). have you asked your cousin if she’s okay with this post?

No, I didn’t, I’m trying hard to talk her out of it, that’s why I made the post, to see what other people think
Well, goodness, she must be sedated. [name_m]Just[/name_m] kidding, but that is really a horrible name. Why not name her [name_f]Tish[/name_f] and call her [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] if she must?

[name_m]Just[/name_m] want to say that [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] gives equal Addams Family/October/cool witchy vibes without referring to a mortician
Wen or Wennie or [name_f]Wendy[/name_f] are cute nicknames too!

It’s kind of forcing your child to have a sense of humor about their name their whole lives, which is hard – I had a student named Chandelier who was able to pull that off, and everyone liked her even more for it, that she was genuinely goodhumored about her name, but…
As someone who grew up hating my (normal) name and the nicknames it brought forth (mean-spirited), I’d say absolutely not. Life is tough anyway, why make it harder?
If she likes [name_f]Tish[/name_f], then go with Letitial/Laetitia or Patrice/Patrizia/Patricia to get [name_f]Tish[/name_f].
If she likes Goth names, there are far more out there that don’t tie her child to funeral homes and one character.

[name_f]Morticia[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] are very similar. [name_m]Can[/name_m] she not do [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

Definitely one person name…and anyways, the [name_m]Mort[/name_m] sound isn’t appealing, sorry. [name_m]Just[/name_m] as unsuable as [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] (sorry!), maybe moreso? Also, morticians. Would she like suggest [name_f]Natasha[/name_f], [name_f]Alicia[/name_f], [name_f]Octavia[/name_f], [name_f]Acacia[/name_f]? [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is nice.
[name_f]Letitia[/name_f] is one way to get to [name_f]Tish[/name_f]. [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]?

Firstly congratulations to your relative and the whole family on the newest addition

Personally I’m not keen on [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] I think the name is a little too much and is very heavy for a someone to carry. I also am not keen on the overall flow of [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] with [name_f]Victoria[/name_f].
I go completely get the whole gothic vibe I know that gothic glam names is an aesthetic that is appealing to a lot of people. I love the idea of [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]! [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] would be gorgeous. Some other gothic baby names could be [name_f]Lilith[/name_f], [name_f]Aura[/name_f], [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_u]Nyx[/name_u], [name_f]Circe[/name_f], [name_u]Raven[/name_u], [name_u]Onyx[/name_u], [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] or [name_f]Drusilla[/name_f]. These all have a cool gothic vibe but feel more wearable.
If she loves [name_f]Tish[/name_f] sound I think [name_f]Laetitia[/name_f], [name_f]Natasha[/name_f],
[name_f]Trista[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Patricia[/name_f]
I also thought [name_f]Demetria[/name_f] could be a great option she has a similar ending to [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] along with that heavy clunkiness and feels incredibly gothic. Also [name_f]Trish[/name_f] could be a stretchy nickname.
Wishing her all the best

big sis s [name_f]Letitia[/name_f] so [name_f]Laetitia[/name_f] is out, but I have suggested other names but she said no
Personally with big sister [name_f]Letitia[/name_f] I think [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] is even more not ticking the right boxes I think it’s too matchy and draws attention too strong slightly to much connotations behind [name_f]Morticia[/name_f].
Did you ask her what she likes about [name_f]Morticia[/name_f]?
Some other ideas could be [name_f]Morgana[/name_f], [name_f]Demelza[/name_f], [name_f]Alethea[/name_f] and [name_f]Estella[/name_f].
However I’m saying all this but would also say that it’s important to respect your relatives decision. It’s her baby and even though I’m not keen on [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] if she loves it then you need to support/respect that decision.
I did, it’s because she wants to name her after the addams family
Okay well I’ve never seen any of the Addams franchise so I can’t really comment on why she strongly wants to choose that name but she feels pretty settled on that name so I would support her decision

I mean, with the new [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] show (I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet but want to see it) I feel like people might be more used to hearing the name used? Especially with the nn [name_f]Tish[/name_f], maybe it’s more usable now? Less “mortician” and more “goth character”?
Anyway, at the end of the day it is her choice

Agreed. It’s your cousin’s babe, and if she’s not keen on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] (or any other Addams’ names), then golly, I’d support her! In the end, it’s nobody’s decision what to name a baby but their parents’, even if a name isn’t what we’d name our own children.

It’s a beautiful name, but a hard one to wear in real life

So I’m one who more keeps my head in the sand on Hollywood culture so this post woke me up to Addams family connections. But prior to reading this all I see is the word “mortician” and so can’t see that wearing well in real life.

Other ideas (from Addams family franchise / [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] to show):
[name_f]Wednesday[/name_f]
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f]
[name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
[name_u]Kitty[/name_u]
[name_f]Bernice[/name_f] / [name_f]Berenice[/name_f]
[name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] / [name_u]Cleo[/name_u]
[name_f]Enid[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurel[/name_u]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Marilyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f]
[name_u]Or[/name_u] she could use [name_f]Morticia[/name_f] as a middle, by the extreme, I mean, [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is a beautiful name and goes with [name_f]Letitia[/name_f]
