I have [name]Elijah[/name] Wolffe, Gillen [name]Jude[/name], [name]Kylie[/name] [name]Grace[/name] ([name]KiKi[/name]), [name]Augustin[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] ([name]Gus[/name]), [name]Jesse[/name] Sackett, and twins [name]Daisy[/name] [name]Susannah[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name] [name]Arwen[/name]. Number 8, a boy, is a due in the fall and we are having a hard time finding/agreeing on the right name. Right now, [name]Moses[/name] is at the top of my list. I’m sure he’d mostly be called [name]Mo[/name] or maybe [name]Moss[/name] or Mossy. What do you think of [name]Moses[/name]? Is it too grey-bearded prophet or will it work on a little guy?
Also, we can’t find the right middle name for [name]Moses[/name]. Our last name is two syllables. The two choices I’ve liked are [name]Beckett[/name] and [name]River[/name], but both are water meanings and I think that is a bit much with the whole [name]Moses[/name]-in-a-basket-in-the-river story. I also would like to avoid another Bible name if possible because [name]Moses[/name] is serious Bible already.
(Other possible first names are [name]Leo[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] (we’d call him [name]Ike[/name]), [name]Jack[/name] (which I’m afraid is too popular), and [name]River[/name]. I’m open to more suggestions.)
I love [name]Moses[/name], but am not into the NNs. It’s only 2 syllables, so I don’t think it it needs one! [name]River[/name], [name]Leo[/name], and [name]Isaac[/name] are great, too.
That’s funny that you say that. It’s totally true! My husband and I do not have the same taste in names and I am a name lover and he is not at all. We usually have a hard time picking names we can agree on and every child has had a different process. Some names are after people- [name]Elijah[/name], Wolffe, [name]Daniel[/name], Sackett, and [name]Susannah[/name]. Some kids were named what he wanted and some what I wanted- although we both had to be willing to use that name. I used to be very particular about sibsets before I started naming people for real. Names had to match, make sense together, sound great together. But once we started having kids (and not sharing the same taste added to it) I decided life is too short. If I truly love a name, I’m not going to limit myself to making it match the other kids. They are different people and won’t spend their life being called as a group. I also won’t be tied down to classic names, family names, Bible names, same letter names, nature names, or same syllable names. I just want to pick the name I love for that baby at that time. We do care about meaning or that the names is meaningful for some reason and I care a lot about the trendy factor. (I began to regret agreeing to [name]Kylie[/name] within 24 hours!) Other than that, we don’t have too many rules.
I think it’s a great name and love your explanation of your naming style- “life is too short. If I truly love a name, I’m not going to limit myself to making it match the other kids. They are different people and won’t spend their life being called as a group.” [name]Amen[/name]!! I will try to keep that in mind with my own naming!
[name]Moses[/name] really is cute. [name]Mo[/name] is cute or [name]Mose[/name] or Mosey - maybe not as official nicknames but names people can call him whenever they fee like it!
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! It doesn’t sound like anyone thinks [name]Moses[/name] is too “old prophet” for a baby and that is great to hear. I really like the suggestion of [name]Moses[/name] [name]Finnian[/name], too. Thanks so much!
