What’s the most unique name in your family out of all your relatives and ancestors? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know how they were named? [name_f]My[/name_f] Gram’s name is [name_f]Ada[/name_f] which was very unique at the time she was born but maybe not so much anymore haha
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] Roses - nn Roses (my great grandmother)
Not the most out there but definitely unusual - and beautiful, I think!
[name_m]Horace[/name_m]: my grandfather.
I would love to be brave enough to use it, but it just feels so….much?
Lolita
A grandmother and out of the blue name in the 20s. She was never aware of the risqué associations, but would always just tell people it was Spanish!
I would love to name one after her but don’t think that will be the way I do it
[name_f]My[/name_f] grandmother was named [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. She is the youngest of six sisters. All of her sisters were given names in the top 100 when they were born but [name_u]Dean[/name_u] was in the 990s when my [name_u]Nana[/name_u] was born (but it was in the 120s for boys when she was born). I suspect her parents had been wanting a boy and decided to give her the boy name, anyway.
Hilkaa. (Great-great-great grandmother.)
[name_m]Council[/name_m] and Honor; both girls, I believe!
There was also a [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] [name_u]Franklin[/name_u] (surname).
[name_f]Celinda[/name_f] is an interesting one!
[name_m]Sherlock[/name_m] (great uncle)
my grandmother’s name!
[name_f]Gunhild[/name_f]
All my family has very basic first names
I think… [name_m]Valentino[/name_m]? [name_m]Thierry[/name_m]? [name_f]Claudia[/name_f]? [name_m]Massimo[/name_m]?
I am serious, I cannot think of anything more, the others are like very basic
Not sure about past generations but my grandparents switched religions before having kids and gave all their children Hindu related names
[name_f]My[/name_f] mother is Durga -no middle- she just went by [name_f]Dee[/name_f] most the time
Sisters are Nalini, [name_f]Daya[/name_f] and Ajanta-she goes by AJ
Brothers are [name_u]Ananda[/name_u] and Anil
Zabina [name_m]Flavius[/name_m], male missionary.
In the sea of Louis’, Joseph’s, and Jean’s and Marie-_______'s, Anne’s, and Madeleine’s, there are so many interesting [name_u]French[/name_u] names on my family tree!
Archange
Euphrosine - quite a handful of them actually
Exilda
Genevieve-Scholastique - the coolest hyphenated name I’ve ever seen!
Perinne
Alibé
Hildège - This guy’s whole sibset of 7 is wild!!
[name_f]Hyacinthe[/name_f] (m)
Lupien
Télesphore
And although it’s not actually her name, one of my great aunts named [name_f]Mary[/name_f] has always exclusively gone by her nickname [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Honey[/name_f]!
Some where way back in the line:
[name_f]Dorcas[/name_f]
Groveretta (daughter of [name_m]Grover[/name_m] who clearly wanted a son)
[name_u]Merit[/name_u] has been used (for boys and girls) as a little name in my family for generations! It’s the most unique I can think of off the top of my head.
Tebbo
It’s hard to find anywhere! [name_f]My[/name_f] uncle is named Tebbo and there were several for a few generations back. [name_f]My[/name_f] family has [name_m]German[/name_m] ancestry— what I’ve concluded is that is an anglicized version of [name_m]Thibault[/name_m] (which is Old [name_m]German[/name_m] or French) and is pronounced Tee BOH.
[name_m]Just[/name_m] a guess but it’s a unique name for our family it seems (since it isn’t a surname)
my great grandmother was named cascile! also, one of my cousins is named after her, and her twin is named lydon <3
From my ancestors:
Bezalel (b)
[name_u]Rice[/name_u] (b)

Malzuma or Malzurna (g) hard to tell from census records
From my husband’s:
