mourning

These are names I love but will never get to use. So sad.

[name]Arthur[/name]- my grandma’s father. he abandoned them when she was a kid. i would have seriously considered this one if he’d been a nice guy.

[name]James[/name]- one of my favorites of all time. one of my uncle’s names. not my favorite uncle, and he’d think the baby was named just for him and he’d talk about it every time he saw the kid for the rest of his life.

[name]Dodge[/name]- a family surname I considered and really dig. I think it’d be cool as a nickname for [name]George[/name]… however, I simply can’t have boys named [name]Dash[/name] and [name]Dodge[/name], that would be ridiculous.

[name]Drake[/name]- was my favorite before I was pregnant, but once I was pregnant I knew it wasn’t his name. It’s got some seriously cool family history going for it. But I don’t like same initial sib sets.

le sigh. I’m mostly bummed about [name]Arthur[/name]. Such a great name.

I feel the same way about [name]Eleanor[/name], such a pretty name that I’ve always loved . . . but she is mean to my momma. Bummer. You have such great names that you can’t use, but the ones that you did use for your little boy are great too!

If you like [name]Arthur[/name], you might love:

[name]CHESTER[/name]

[name]VICTOR[/name]

[name]IVOR[/name]

[name]BERNARD[/name] (means bear, too)

[name]LUTHER[/name]

[name]MARTIN[/name]

[name]BRUNO[/name]

[name]MAGNUS[/name]

[name]HARVEY[/name]

[name]THEODORE[/name] nn [name]TED[/name]

[name]DEXTER[/name]

[name]EDWARD[/name]

[name]FRANK[/name]

My fam has some mourning names, too: [name]Timothy[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Ruth[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Leroy[/name] (not too sad about [name]Leroy[/name]), [name]Hilton[/name].

[name]Smitty[/name], that is a shame about [name]Eleanor[/name], beautiful name!

[name]Susan[/name], I love [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]George[/name]… I wouldn’t be too sad about [name]Leroy[/name] either.
Funny you should mention [name]Harvey[/name], it’s one of top two these days (he and [name]Jude[/name] are vying for the top spot). I also adore [name]Dexter[/name], so cute. two-syllable ends in -er names really don’t work with my last name. Which is sad because a lot of my favorites fit that description (e.g. [name]Arthur[/name]). I like the idea of [name]Ted[/name] as the nn for [name]Theodore[/name], I love [name]Theodore[/name], but not [name]Theo[/name]. I’m also a big fan of [name]Bruno[/name] and [name]Edward[/name] nn [name]Ward[/name]. Good job with that list!

Also, my mom hates a guy named [name]Walter[/name]. But, it’s a family name on my husband’s side, so I might be able to work it into the middle anyway. And Warfield if another one on his side, but I just found out that the bearer of that middle name hates it, but I think it’s so cool (only in the middle, that is).

I am mourning the following names… and I try my best to get my family and friends to use them!

[name]Peter[/name] (not with a P last name!!!)

[name]Phillip[/name] (ditto, P last name, and is Step-mom’s dad… if we honor grandparents we need to do our real parents first)

[name]Reed[/name] (again a step-family name, still wondering if I could use [name]Reid[/name] though?)

[name]Jack[/name] (love it but best friend family just named their little one [name]Jack[/name]… that and its SUPER popular right now)

[name]James[/name] (again step-parent)

I love [name]Drake[/name] as well, but my sister and her hubby just named their dog [name]Drake[/name].

I like classic names, leaning heavily toward
[name]John[/name] [name]Hudson[/name] ([name]Hudson[/name] is a family name for my Hubby)
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Hudson[/name]

Another great blog idea! It’s even sadder when your spouse is the one who has some bad history with a name you love.

I am mourning:

[name]Lauren[/name]: an evil girl who pulls on your pigtails.
[name]Josh[/name]/[name]Joshua[/name]: I hate that I can’t use this name but the last person I meet with this name was a rude jerk and he bullied my younger cousin.

There are many other names but I cannot remember them. But I am sad that I can’t use theses names though I’m not that sad that I can’t use [name]Lauren[/name].

[name]George[/name], nn [name]Geordie[/name] – always wanted to have a son named this.
[name]Frederick[/name], nn [name]Freddy[/name] – ditto
[name]Philip[/name], poss nn [name]Pip[/name] – ditto
[name]Louis[/name], [name]David[/name], [name]Hugh[/name], and [name]William[/name] all names that are in the family and won’t be used.

[name]Helen[/name] – the daughter I lost was [name]Rachel[/name] [name]Helen[/name]. My grandmother’s name.
[name]Martha[/name], [name]Cecily[/name], Angharad, [name]Tamsin[/name], [name]Elinor[/name]. Names I would have used if I’d had a gazillion kids…instead of three.

[name]John[/name] — name of my slacker cousin

[name]James[/name] — another awful cousin

[name]Jacqueline[/name] — mother of cousins

[name]Bonnie[/name] — I used to really like this, and when I told my mother, she told me that she used to have a friend called [name]Bonnie[/name], who went mad when my mother married my father, and tried to do something awful to me when I was born, but I don’t know what

[name]Susannah[/name] — again, a friend of my mother’s who went crazy once she married my father and I was born. I really don’t understand what all the kerfuffle is about!!

[name]Kitty[/name] — a name of a dog I used to own, who was ill from the day she was born.

[name]Mischa[/name] — reminds me of my dog [name]Michael[/name] Fishcakes, who went by Mishka.

[name]Jessamine[/name] — I know a girl called [name]Jasmin[/name], yep, misspelt, and I hate her, and now when I think of [name]Jessamine[/name], her face pops into my head ):

[name]Elliott[/name] — my sister is [name]Ella[/name], and we don’t get along, so this name reminds me of her, unfortunately.

… I have many more, but those are the main ones
