Muffy?

I recently posted a thread about nicknames for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and got some new ideas. Earlier today I was looking at old family records and found that my Great Aunt [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] actually went by Muffy and her twin [name_f]Bermuda[/name_f] went by [name_f]Buffy[/name_f]!. While uncommon, I think Muffy is very darling. I am still leaning towards [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. What are your thoughts?

Muffy reminds me of the character from the kids’ show [name_m]Arthur[/name_m], so I find it a bit too cutesy and cartoonish to take it seriously. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is so sweet and dainty.

And wow, [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_f]Bermuda[/name_f]? That’s so far apart in style for twins, haha.

Well [name_f]Bermuda[/name_f] had twin girls and named them [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Alphonso[/name_m]. My dad’s side of the family is quite eccentric.

From what I know a ‘muff’ or ‘muffin’ etc. is not-all-that-uncommon slang for a lady’s private parts, which would put me off a bit! It also makes me think of the kids TV show [name_m]Arthur[/name_m].

I think [name_f]Bermuda[/name_f] is pretty cool! Not sure about [name_m]Alphonso[/name_m] though…

I probably won’t use Muffy, it will just be for my own amusement. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is still my top pick for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].

I agree with pp’s, I don’t really like Muffy and it reminds me of the [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] character. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is adorable! I would definitely go with that.

I find the idea of Muffy as a nickname for [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] rather amusing because I’m a [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Meg[/name_f] as a family nickname, which evolved into my dad’s pet name for me: Mega Muffin! So, [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]-nicknamed-Muffy actually does make sense to me in a roundabout way, but probably won’t to the vast majority of people. Then again, most people don’t see how [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] started out as a nickname for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] either. (And who knows how your great-aunt [name_f]Bermuda[/name_f] got nicknamed [name_f]Buffy[/name_f]!) In any case, I think [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is a lot cuter than Muffy for an “official” nickname, but if you wanted to occasionally use Muffy, it could be a nice nod to your family history.

I think they wanted the twins to have rhyming nicknames, so they thought outside of the box!
