Musical name ideas

[name_m]Just[/name_m] for fun, I’m looking for honour names for my family’s love of music. My mum, sister and I all play classical piano and my dad plays the sax. His father, who he never met (he was adopted) played the trombone in a famous jazz band in the 50s. I’ve been fascinated by names in the last few years but haven’t found many meaningful honour names that I really love. I hope to make nod to this very special part of our lives one day and know that all you creative berries here will have a catalogue of ideas that would take me very many moons to find!

I love unusual names but am open to all and any ideas, whether they work best in the middle or in first place. It could either reflect music in general or the instruments themselves. Please see my signature to get an idea of my naming style.

I recently came across [name_u]Ivory[/name_u], which is really pretty (as a nod to the traditional material used for piano keys) but I was unsure about the negative association of ivory hunting? Would love to hear your thoughts on this too!

Thanks so much!

Thanks so much @elifsu, I really like [name_f]Allegro[/name_f], Dolce and [name_f]Neva[/name_f] is cool! I also completely forgot about [name_f]Aria[/name_f] being a musical name and I love that name a lot!

@mclola thank you for the list, I don’t think I’ve seen that one before. There’s some great suggestions on there and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] has been a long time favourite of mine so [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] as a nickname is a pretty cool idea!

@lucyyy thanks for all the ideas. I love [name_f]Allegra[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f] [name_m]Cello[/name_m] and [name_m]Sol[/name_m]. [name_f]Minuet[/name_f] is a new one on me and I think it sounds really chic actually. [name_f]Sonata[/name_f] is fun too, I think that one might grow on me!

Thanks so much @norin. I really like your suggestions of [name_f]Aida[/name_f], [name_f]Viola[/name_f], [name_u]Ellington[/name_u], [name_u]Lyric[/name_u] and [name_f]Dixie[/name_f]. Unfortunately my niece goes by nn [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], but I love that one too! I actually have a few of your suggestions on my list already so maybe I could use some of those for their less obvious musical meanings!

Thanks everyone for all of your great ideas. I can have fun making new combinations now!

They mentioned most of them, just want to add [name_f]Octavia[/name_f]

More:
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] (after the instrument lyre)
[name_u]Jazz[/name_u] (I love [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] as a nn, maybe full name [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]? Or [name_f]Jasmin[/name_f]?)
Poeta (“poet” in Portuguese; it’s unisex btw)
…?

Gorgeous suggestions guys, thanks so much. I love [name_f]Arietta[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and Nocturne is pretty special @adelina_sophia. [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] is amazing with great middle name potential!

@kipperbo1, [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] is really intriguing actually. I hadn’t thought about the obvious musical connection. It’s funny how some names you’ve always known of but never really thought too much about can surprise you.

Amazing list @pindorama! I love [name_u]Abby[/name_u]'s picks: [name_f]Symphony[/name_f], Solo, [name_u]Fife[/name_u] and [name_u]Reed[/name_u]. Poeta is absolutely magical as well, and would be a special one to remember as my father is a bit of a secret poet, I always encourage him to write as he’s so naturally gifted with words. I used to have [name_u]Poet[/name_u] on my list but felt it was perhaps a little pretentious, Poeta on the other hand feels more like a name in my english tongue.
