What do you guys think about the name [name_u]Fife[/name_u]? My friend is heavily considering the name, and it’s at the top of their list. I’m interested to see what you guys think about it. I’m not sure if they have a middle name yet.
[name_u]Fife[/name_u] makes me think of the city in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and the instrument. It’s quite unusual, but fits in with the trend for word names and would be easy to spell and pronounce since it’s a word. I would find it interesting and memorable if I met a [name_u]Fife[/name_u].
It’s not really my style, I would assume it’s a nickname for something, but…i’ve heard worse?
I surprisingly quite like it. I don’t normally like place names, but its quite a common surname here (normally spelled [name_m]Fyfe[/name_m]), so I think that makes the difference.
Also, [name_u]Fife[/name_u] is a county, not a city.
Make her un-consider the name… It might work as a nickname but holy shit don’t let her name the poor boy [name_u]Fife[/name_u]
It’s not my style personally, but I don’t think it’s the atrocity the above user is making it out to be.
Whoops, apparently so! We don’t have counties where I live so I get confused.
[name_u]Fife[/name_u] is not that bad! I think its a cool choice.
Like [name_m]Barney[/name_m] [name_m]Fyfe[/name_m]? Please don’t.
I actually really like [name_u]Fife[/name_u]! I’d be pumped if one of my friends was going to name their son [name_u]Fife[/name_u] ;). I have no associations with [name_u]Fife[/name_u], good or bad, so I find it rather surprising and pleasing!
It’s not my favourite but there’s nothing distinctly offensive about it. I’d prefer it as a nickname for [name_m]Feivel[/name_m] though…
I definitely prefer it as a middle or nickname. I’m not a fan of it as a first name, though.
I kinda like it actually, but it strikes me more as a girls name. I don’t think that will be important tho. Nobody has met a [name_u]Fife[/name_u] before so if the first one you meet is a guy it’s just gonna seem like a guy’s name from then on.
I really like it! It’s simple, striking, strong and has some history behind it.
I love [name_u]Fife[/name_u]/[name_m]Fyfe[/name_m]. It’s been on my fave list for years.
It doesn’t really matter what we think because it’s not your place to say anything to her about it anyway, unless she explicitly asked you for advice? Not really sure what you’re trying to achieve here since this is not your decision to make. Does she know you are posting this?
Well this is a name forum, so I just wanted to know what everyone thought about it for fun. [name_m]Just[/name_m] feeling out what a bunch of people think about the name because I was curious.
Thanks everyone for your opinions.
I quite like the name, but if she’s having second thoughts she can always name the baby something like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] and use [name_u]Fife[/name_u] as his nickname.
Sure, I’m probably just being oversensitive. But personally I’d be kind of pissed off if I found out a friend was discussing my baby name choices with strangers on the internet. It just seems very different to me from discussing names for your own child or that you like personally, especially since this is a public website.
I think it’s cool, if a little unsubstantial.
