In order of favourite to least favourite:
[name]Love[/name]:
[name]Helena[/name]- beautiful, feminine and strong, sounds like the heroine of a romantic novel. one of my favourite names!
[name]Diana[/name] (tied with [name]Helena[/name])- another favourite. lovely and pretty, sweet and appealing
[name]Adelaide[/name]- an elegant classic with historical usage
[name]Penelope[/name]- spunky, sweet, but still pretty
[name]Jane[/name]- an absolute classic that can never go wrong, but not the most exciting name. makes me think of [name]Jane[/name] [name]Austen[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]- jazzy, spunky, down-to-earth but also classy and proper, and very historical
[name]Anastasia[/name]- exotic, dramatic and exciting like the story of the lost Russian princess
[name]Katherine[/name]- if it were [name]Catherine[/name] it would be higher up my list. another timeless classic
[name]Annalise[/name]- pretty name with European flair, but I prefer [name]Annalise[/name]
[name]Freya[/name]- here in [name]Canada[/name] this still sounds very exotic
[name]Meryl[/name]- a very unique name- the only bearers I’ve heard of are [name]Meryl[/name] Streep and American ice dancer [name]Meryl[/name] [name]Davis[/name]
[name]Patricia[/name]- buttoned-up and proper, strong and grounded but still feminine. vintage chic for sure
[name]Lavinia[/name]- very aristocratic-sounding- sounds like the name of a countess or duchess
Like:
[name]Maeve[/name]- dramatic and spirited, very Irish. practically unheard of where I live
[name]Erie[/name]- I think of [name]Lake[/name] [name]Erie[/name], but I can see this as an interesting name for a person
[name]Janet[/name]- another vintage name rarely heard on children and teenagers these days, but should be
[name]Florence[/name]- another vintage chic name, seems quite popular in the UK
[name]Johanna[/name]- I love the [name]German[/name] prn.- smooth and classy
[name]Miriam[/name]- peppy, spunky and upbeat
[name]Yvaine[/name]- like the sound… but it sounds a bit like a French cosmetic product to me
[name]Constance[/name]- grounded and down-to-earth, but many virtue names come off a bit preachy to me
[name]Antonia[/name]- pretty and vintage but sounds a bit snobby
[name]Priscilla[/name]- nice sound, but a bit close to the word prissy
[name]Eliza[/name]- [name]Elizabeth[/name] is one of my favourite names, and I love the P&P-inspired nickname [name]Eliza[/name], but not a fan of
nicknames as full names
[name]Amelie[/name]- lovely with the French pronunciation, but sounds a bit like an adverb to me in English
[name]Elsa[/name]- I’m not a “mini-name” person but this is one of the few I like
[name]Erin[/name]- I like how it means [name]Ireland[/name] (at least in legends), but not totally my style
[name]Valerie[/name]- nice
[name]Sarah[/name]- nice but I know so many Saras/Sarahs!
Mehh…
[name]Violet[/name]- a Nameberry favourite, but it’s just okay to me
[name]Fiona[/name]- feminine with a strong sound
[name]Lilith[/name]- pretty and spunky
[name]Bryony[/name]- nice, unique (where I live), but a bit masculine
[name]Hadley[/name]- nice but nms (I don’t hate unisex names but they don’t generally do much for me)
[name]Isadore[/name]- see [name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Carol[/name]- nice but not that special
[name]Avery[/name]- see [name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Abigail[/name]- I like the sound but for some reason it looks awkward on paper
[name]Etta[/name]- great as a nickname, but I tend to find nickname-names insubstantial
[name]June[/name]- nice but again, I prefer longer names
Dislike, sorry:
[name]Corrine[/name]- sounds snobby and whiny to me
[name]Grace[/name]- just doesn’t seem special
[name]Winnie[/name]- see [name]Etta[/name]. short for [name]Winifred[/name] or even [name]Wilhelmina[/name], it’d be cute though
[name]Natalie[/name]- I don’t really like the “ee” sound at the end of most names (though there are a few exceptions)
[name]Farrah[/name]- don’t like how it looks on paper
[name]Bethany[/name]- seems kind of milk-soppy
[name]Lucy[/name]- see [name]Etta[/name]. I’d like [name]Lucinda[/name] or [name]Luciana[/name] nn [name]Lucy[/name] though
[name]Coral[/name]- not sure this ages well
[name]Fleur[/name]- it seems a bit ridiculous to name your child [name]Flower[/name]. translating it doesn’t make it much better!
[name]Olive[/name]- I think of olives and I don’t like olives
[name]Sally[/name]- see [name]Etta[/name]
[name]Ginger[/name]- see [name]Coral[/name]
[name]Morgan[/name]- too masculine for me, but [name]Morgana[/name] is nice
[name]Laure[/name]- seems incomplete, especially since my name is [name]Lauren[/name]
[name]Sidney[/name]- this is the boy spelling- [name]Sydney[/name] is better
[name]Zoe[/name]- not a fan of “mini-names”
[name]Sylvia[/name]- sounds whiny and prissy
[name]Sylvie[/name]- see [name]Sylvia[/name]
[name]Elsie[/name]- sounds snobby
[name]Jodie[/name]- doesn’t sound feminine at all
[name]Daphne[/name]- I don’t like how consonant-heavy this is
[name]Dinah[/name]- see [name]Elsie[/name]
[name]Brio[/name]- sounds incomplete and reminds me of [name]Brie[/name] cheese (I like the cheese but wouldn’t want to be named after a food!)
[name]Sasha[/name]- I see this as a boy name- love as a nn for [name]Alexander[/name], but not on its own and not for a girl!
[name]Quinn[/name]- not sure why, I just always strongly disliked this name
Sorry this is soooooo long!
