My husband likes a name im not convinced of!

Hello my fellow berries!
I am about 18 weeks along with my second child, we don’t know the gender yet.
My hubby really likes the name [name]Cruz[/name], i am not against using it i am just not totally convinced just yet, nothing wrong with it but i think i have a couple other names i personally like more, but im trying to keep an open mind.

We live in New Zealand and the name isn’t very common here at all, and because of where we live if we went with [name]Cruz[/name] there likely wouldn’t be the connection between the name and its Spanish heritage.

My question to you all is what are your thoughts on this name? but also what middle name could i team it with??

Because it is a little unique sounding and trendy could the name [name]Cruz[/name] sound odd with just a classic middle name? [name]Do[/name] i need to find an equally funky unique cultural name to go with it??

[name]Cruz[/name] ??? [name]Rule[/name]

Look forward to reading your thoughts and ideas.

i love cruz too, but i cant think of any mn

I love cruz, but not with your last name rule. It sounds like “this [name]Cruise[/name] rules”. sorry.

I really like [name]Cruz[/name]! I would love to see it used! If you give me a few names to get a sense of your style I will suggest some mn’s.

I also don’t think [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Rule[/name] is the best idea. It almost sounds like a joke. [name]Cruz[/name] as a middle name would work, though.

I get what you guys are saying about the last name, but frankly that will happen and does happen with any name. All the [name]Rule[/name]'s are used to it, not me personally as im a [name]Rule[/name] by marriage but Hubby expects it.

As for our style, examples of names we like are: [name]Brady[/name], [name]Mason[/name], [name]Cooper[/name], [name]Hunter[/name], [name]Jonas[/name], [name]Reid[/name], [name]Ryder[/name] (though we wont be using those R names with our LN)

I’m not sure I understand why a name sounding like a joke should be expected. [name]Jonas[/name] [name]Rule[/name] is a perfectly handsome name and doesn’t sound like a joke. [name]Brady[/name] [name]Rule[/name] or [name]Mason[/name] [name]Rule[/name] also don’t sound like jokes.

[name]Every[/name] name has its challenges, and when you have a last name that is also a word, I think it is best to avoid word names for first names. It turns the name into some other entity besides a person. I’m sure a cruise ship has rules, and his name would be one of them. I would pick a non-word name and the problem is solved. I would also pick something with more than one syllable to help the flow. Call me picky!

I like [name]Cruz[/name] and I think it sounds fine with [name]Rule[/name]. And if you pronounce it with the Spanish pronunciation, it will sound even farther from [name]Cruise[/name].

For a mn, I think you could go with something biblical: [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Josiah[/name], for example, sounds nice.
[name]Cruz[/name] [name]Hunter[/name] and [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Jonas[/name] are also nice, from your list.
Something else Spanish, [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Ignacio[/name], [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Efrain[/name], etc. is cool.
As for classic, [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Thomas[/name] is nice, but [name]Cruz[/name] [name]Henry[/name] not so much. Overall, I think [name]Cruz[/name] is actually a pretty flexible name as far as combos go.

You said this is your second child - what is your first child named?

(I agree with ohiom, though, that more than one syllable would be better for a first name with [name]Rule[/name].)

I like [name]Cruz[/name] a lot…maybe your husband would like [name]Caruso[/name]? I like it more…I don’t like rule at allits terrible

I definitely agree that two word names as a first and last combination is distracting and feels a bit more like a phrase than a name. It is unfortunate that surnames can partially shape (read ‘limit’) first name choices, but I think it is unavoidable no matter what your surname is. There are just some things that won’t work well with it. With a last name that is a word I (personally) feel word first names are iffy if not to be avoided altogether.
That said, those people I know who have pulled it off (ie [name]Barb[/name] Wiard) and are absolutely fine so if you really want to do it, don’t let the nay-sayers stop you. If you love the name, go for it.
