my partner likes...

Hey berries! I’m wondering if you would share what your non-name-nerd partner, best friend, or parent thinks is a great name?!

I’ll start:
My partner likes [name_f]Begonia[/name_f] and [name_f]Coral[/name_f] nn [name_f]Coco[/name_f] for girls and [name_m]Charles[/name_m] nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] and [name_m]Randolph[/name_m] for boys.

My fiance wanted to name our daughter Anyi Sayuri, but he is Mexican and I am White. He heard the name somewhere and liked it.

My partner loves [name_m]Hamish[/name_m] but I cant stand it! The ‘ish’ part sounds negative (like when people say okayish, happy-ish, niceish…) Also I read the first part like [name_m]Ham[/name_m] and that just puts me off! (Especially as SO is a vegetarian, it wouldn’t make any sense!) Anyway, he admitted to me that he thinks its a GP name (I gave him that term!) He also mentioned that he likes [name_m]Malachi[/name_m] which I’m quite fond of. I know he likes Scottish names for boys as he has Scottish heritage.
He came across [name_f]Esme[/name_f] when we were on holiday and he said he loved it. I was so excited he liked something along the same lines as me! I try to get other name choices out of him but he refuses because he is worried I will hate them all, since he knows I know a lot more about names than he does!

I talk alot about names with my mum too, as she’s actually quite a name nerd herself! She isn’t quite as obsessed as me and has a lot of very ‘tryndee’ names on her list to which I just groan and explain to her why they are bad! But we also have a lot of unusual favourites in common, the most recent one we discussed being [name_f]Octavia[/name_f].

My lovely SO (who I am gentle encouraging to appreciate names more and who is responding well) has the most inconsistent style of anyone I have ever met. He goes from suggesting twins names of Maroon and [name_f]Magenta[/name_f], [name_u]Rio[/name_u] and [name_f]Ria[/name_f] and (I swear I’m not lying about this) [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Fauna[/name_f]. However, he also likes much more traditional names like [name_f]Esperanza[/name_f] and [name_f]Vitoria[/name_f]. He even likes the name [name_f]Paige[/name_f], which doesn’t fit in anywhere. The most frustrating part is that he likes “unique” spellings and made-up names, such as Dumaria (which is a mix of [name_f]Dulce[/name_f], [name_f]Mayi[/name_f], and [name_f]Maria[/name_f]). It’s a work in process, that is for sure! But he does have some very creative suggestions I would never have thought of, which can be very nice. Plus I can usually get him on board, eventually, with names I absolutely fall in love with.

He likes rarer names.

For girls: [name_f]Josiane[/name_f], [name_f]Regina[/name_f], [name_u]Shea[/name_u], [name_f]Alma[/name_f], [name_f]Dinah[/name_f].

For boys: Spektor, [name_m]Callaghan[/name_m], [name_m]Ludwig[/name_m], [name_m]Miles[/name_m].

My husband “tames” my style a lot! His favorite names for girls are [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Maya[/name_f]. For boys he likes [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] and [name_m]Adrian[/name_m]. I have no problem with these names but have other names that I love with more passion.

The only two combos I can recall that FI has come up with are [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. He loves the names [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and if he had 100% of the say, our daughters would be [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] and [name_f]Clementine[/name_f].

His favorites (the ones that he’s always really liked or took a liking to as soon as I mentioned them):

Girls:
[name_f]Amaryllis[/name_f]
[name_u]Blue[/name_u]
[name_f]Cerelia[/name_f]
[name_u]Ember[/name_u]
[name_u]Gwyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_m]Rivers[/name_m]
[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]

Boys:
[name_m]Alphonse[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m]
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m]
[name_u]Grey[/name_u] (as middle)
[name_u]Owen[/name_u]
[name_u]Red[/name_u] (as middle)
[name_u]Rio[/name_u]
[name_u]River[/name_u]
[name_m]Zane[/name_m]

He also isn’t opposed to [name_f]Feather[/name_f], Fuschia, [name_f]Emerald[/name_f], and [name_u]Rain[/name_u] (girls) and likes [name_u]Raven[/name_u] as a middle for a boy. I think it’s cute that he likes nature and color names, it surprises me how his style evolves over the years!

Thanks everyone for your replies! It’s interesting to see how many of our significant folks like names that are nameberry approved! I thought for sure I’d get a lot of responses with trendy names… Good job, berries, keep up the good influence!

Well, I did ask him what his “dream” name was once… He answered [name_f]Anne[/name_f] [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] ____ (family name). I don’t mind it too much, but there are too many Annes in the family already (myself included), so that’s out. He would also like us to name our son after him and I agreed to put it in the middle name spot. I love him, but he’s not very creative :stuck_out_tongue:
