I love [name_f]Emilie[/name_f], [name_m]Emilio[/name_m], [name_m]Emil[/name_m] and I like [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] problem is that they all mean “rival” and I would like one or two middle name to balance out the bad meaning. Any ideas? [name_m]Even[/name_m] more stretched oens.
[name_m]Emilio[/name_m] [name_f]Amity[/name_f]
I think they could go well together with a name meaning “peace”: [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Irene[/name_f], [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_u]Pax[/name_u], [name_m]Emil[/name_m] [name_u]Miran[/name_u], [name_m]Emilio[/name_m] [name_m]Salomon[/name_m], etc.
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] [name_m]Kaiden[/name_m] [name_u]Messiah[/name_u]
[name_m]Emilio[/name_m] [name_m]Fredrick[/name_m] [name_m]Aziel[/name_m]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Nayara[/name_f] [name_u]Jay[/name_u]
very similar problem. i had a friend named emilia, but we had a horrible falling out… i would still love to use a name akin to emiliano. for a middle name, i’d try…
emil ferdinand (rival, bold voyager)
emil salvator (rival, saviour)
emil alessio (rival, defender)
emil alvaro (rival, warrior)
emil stefano (rival, crown)
emil orlando (rival, famed through the land)
emilio alexander (rival, defending man)
emilio sebastian (rival, revered)
emilio ulises (rival, voyage)
emilia … i’d pair her with any woman in shakespeare!
emilie cosette (rival, little thing)
emilie angelique (rival, angel)
emilie isabeau (rival, pledged to God)
emilie hermione (rival, messenger / earthly)
emilie fernande (rival, bold voyager)
emilie celine (rival, heavenly)
Makes sense. “Rival of the peace” is war though… Which makes me thinking:
Does anyone of you know any name meaning “war”? So the meaning is “rival of the war” which is “peace”.
For the pairing with a name meaning “peace” I was intending it to mean rivals making peace. The “rival of the war” approach is a good alternative idea though! I think [name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_f]Hedwig[/name_f] or [name_m]Emilio[/name_m] [name_u]Ares[/name_u] would be cool.
[name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] (rivals the light of summer)
[name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] (rivals gold)
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] [name_m]Sorin[/name_m] [name_u]Luca[/name_u] (rivals the sun light)
[name_m]Emilio[/name_m] [name_m]Amadeus[/name_m] (rivals the love of god?)
[name_m]Emilio[/name_m] [name_m]Aurelian[/name_m] (rivals gold)
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] [name_m]Casimiro[/name_m] (rival to the destroyer of peace - as in, able to stop the destruction)
[name_f]Emilie[/name_f] [name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_f]Suvi[/name_f] (rivals the beauty of summer)
[name_m]Emil[/name_m] is also a variation of the germanic [name_u]Amal[/name_u] while [name_f]Emalia[/name_f] is a variation of [name_f]Amalia[/name_f]. Considering this connection, I don’t think it’s a stretch to link [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] or [name_m]Emilio[/name_m] to the same origin. Generally I wouldn’t worry too much about meanings many of them are guesses.
bit of a different take to all the other responses… but I really wouldn’t worry about the meaning.
my name is [name_f]Emily[/name_f] (which has the same meaning as all those names), and to be honest, I love my name and NEVER think about the meaning of my name. most people don’t think about the meaning of their name or even KNOW the meaning of their name! I’m sure most of the people I know called [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] don’t think about their name meaning “lame” on a regular basis… only name nerds would know so I really don’t think “bad meanings” matter… it’s more about the name itself, if you like it and the sound of it etc.!
also to add on, whenever I meet an [name_f]Emily[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] or [name_f]Claudia[/name_f] or [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] etc… I never think about the “bad meaning” of their name! it just doesn’t come to mind at all… and that’s coming from someone who is a massive name nerd!
I know, but still meaning is important for me for personal and emotional reasons!
If I am not mistaken, Viggo was originally a short form of names containing the Old Norse element víg (“war”).
For something slightly less literal, Casimir roughly means “destroyer of peace” while Cadell is a Welsh name meaning “battle”.
[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f], it has never bothered me. [name_f]My[/name_f] teachers found it quite funny when I told them, and said it suited me perfectly then.
But names with meanings that also aren’t desirable like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (intoxicating) and [name_u]Gideon[/name_u] (stumps for hands) aren’t underused because if their meanings.
