My sweet hubby's list A-I

Hello Berries!

We have been ttc for a while, and have finally found out we are expecting our first! So, I am early along, but I am stressing over names already! Names were fun to look at before I was actually with child… now it is just sort of stressful.

That was off topic…anyways, my sweet husband has started getting excited about names. He has now started looking through a name book and is writing down his favorites - so far he has done A-I for a boy. Here are his favorites.

[name]Alister[/name]
[name]Anton[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Bowen[/name]
[name]Brennan[/name]
[name]Camden[/name]
[name]Drake[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Ian[/name]

So, what do you think? Favorites? Can you describe his style? I would love more suggestions that he may like.

FYI: Hubby tends to veto most my suggestions. My style seems to change daily (especially since I am actually pregnant)… Mostly, however, I like unique, edgy, vintage, or nature type names. My favorites from his list are [name]Atlas[/name] and [name]Felix[/name] (although [name]Felix[/name] might be too popular for me). My least favorites are [name]Brennan[/name], [name]Alister[/name], and [name]Bennett[/name].

[name]Alister[/name] - Meh.
[name]Anton[/name] - It’s ok.
[name]Arthur[/name] - NMS.
[name]Atlas[/name] - Too much for me.
[name]Bennett[/name] - [name]Love[/name]!
[name]Bowen[/name] - [name]Don[/name]'t like at all.
[name]Brennan[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]!!! This is one of my favorite names
[name]Camden[/name] - I used to kinda like it because it’s where my dad grew up. So… I’ve been there recently and seen the town. Not a place I’d name a child after. (I’m sure there are other Camdens, but my mind goes to NJ).
[name]Drake[/name] - Meh.
[name]Dorian[/name] - [name]Kinda[/name] like it… maybe.
[name]Felix[/name] - It’s ok.
[name]Graham[/name] - Meh. I knew a jerk with this name so… kinda sways my view, lol.
[name]Ian[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! Another favorite of mine!

I have to say that [name]Brennan[/name] and [name]Bennett[/name] are my favourites from this list. I quite like [name]Bowen[/name] ([name]Bo[/name] is a cool nn) and [name]Ian[/name] as well. I don’t know how to describe your hubby’s style as it seemed to be a bit mixed. Some other names that seem to run in the same thread could be

[name]Beckett[/name]
[name]Bowman[/name]
[name]Cameron[/name]
[name]Iain[/name] (pronounced the same as [name]Ian[/name])

Congrats on the baby!

[name]Alister[/name] - not a fan.
[name]Anton[/name] - Like this one.
[name]Arthur[/name] - Ok.
[name]Atlas[/name] - No.
[name]Bennett[/name] - love it.
[name]Bowen[/name] - eh. not really liking it.
[name]Brennan[/name] - I prefer [name]Brendan[/name] or [name]Brandon[/name] or [name]Brenden[/name].
[name]Camden[/name] - NMS.
[name]Drake[/name] - Like this. Unusual but not made-up or “out there”.
[name]Dorian[/name] - Ok. [name]Unique[/name], to be sure. The more I roll it around the more I like it.
[name]Felix[/name] - NMS. I really don’t like this name. All I can associate it with is the cat from the [name]Sunday[/name] comics, and a really nasty villain in a book I read once.
[name]Graham[/name] - No. Despite its popularity, I really, really don’t like this name.
[name]Ian[/name] - [name]Love[/name] it.

Other suggestions:
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Orrin[/name]/[name]Oren[/name]
[name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]/[name]Myles[/name]/[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Lucas[/name]/[name]Lucius[/name]
[name]Vaughn[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]James[/name]
[name]Levi[/name]
[name]Gibson[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Linus[/name]
[name]Ellis[/name]
[name]Max[/name]/[name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Nelson[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Blaine[/name]
[name]Madison[/name]
[name]Collin[/name]/[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
[name]Hayden[/name]
[name]Reid[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Sebastien[/name]/[name]Sebastian[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Giles[/name] (I knew a boy by this name in grade school. He went by [name]Gillie[/name], and later in high school, by [name]Gil[/name])
[name]Benton[/name]

[name]Bet[/name] he would love [name]Theodore[/name]. Great tragedy of my naming experience is that my husband didn’t! Your husband seems to be more of my style. [name]Love[/name] [name]Dorian[/name], [name]Graham[/name], [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Alister[/name] (I prefer it spelled [name]Alistair[/name]).

My favorites from your DH’s list are [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Dorian[/name], [name]Graham[/name], and [name]Ian[/name]. These are definitely more in the vintage category. I would say his list is a mix of vintage and modern-- maybe fresh-vintage? There may also be a literary theme running through them as I could think of authors/characters/books for quiet a few: [name]Anton[/name] Chekov, [name]Atlas[/name] Shrugged, [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name], [name]Graham[/name] [name]Greene[/name], etc.). And they seem to be in the British, Irish, and [name]Scot[/name] tradition. Here are a few other suggestions that might work:

[name]Alec[/name]
[name]Austin[/name]
[name]Barrett[/name]
[name]Carson[/name]
[name]Cole[/name]
[name]Damian[/name]
[name]Dane[/name]
[name]Dante[/name]
[name]Darius[/name]
[name]Donald[/name]
[name]Dominic[/name]
[name]Edwin[/name]
[name]Frederick[/name]
[name]Evan[/name]
[name]Everett[/name]
[name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Gilbert[/name]
[name]Gordon[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Isaac[/name]
[name]Julian[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Lachlan[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
[name]Lawrence[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Max[/name]
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Owen[/name]
[name]Oscar[/name]
[name]Philip[/name]
[name]Rufus[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Tristan[/name]
[name]Wilder[/name]
[name]Winston[/name]

Congratulations!!

[name]Alister[/name]- Nms but I can picture it on a little boy
[name]Anton[/name]- I don’t like. Very Russian sounding to me, not that there is anything wrong with that. [name]Just[/name] definitely NMS
[name]Arthur[/name]- I like it. I love the history. Sounds like a strong name
[name]Atlas[/name]- I really don’t like
[name]Bennett[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Love[/name] [name]Love[/name]
[name]Bowen[/name]- I don’t like it. Sounds very last namey
[name]Brennan[/name]- I do like this a lot. Very cute
[name]Camden[/name]- Ok. Like [name]Cameron[/name] better
[name]Drake[/name]- No
[name]Dorian[/name]- [name]Dorian[/name] [name]Gray[/name] ruined it for me. Good book, bad namesake.
[name]Felix[/name]- Very Cute. I like a lot
[name]Graham[/name]- My favorite from your list. [name]Love[/name] This! It is on my list too!
[name]Ian[/name]- Cute, but I grew up with too many [name]Ian[/name]'s for this to feel fresh. Maybe [name]Ewan[/name] instead?

Your husband went through a name book! Wow! So cool. I don’t think my hubby has ever done that and we’ve named 5 children. Maybe one time when I forced him too. My hubby mostly vetoes and asks me for my top 5.

My style is pretty different from your hubby. I like [name]Ian[/name] best.

I have a [name]Bennett[/name], so obviously it is my fav from your list. I also love [name]Graham[/name].

I adore [name]Atlas[/name] [name]Bennett[/name]! I also think [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Bennett[/name] is amazing!

I like [name]Felix[/name] [name]Bowen[/name]!

[name]Alister[/name]- okay. I don’t love it, and it seems a little evil, too much for a kid. Probably because of its similarity to the word sinister
[name]Anton[/name] - i really dislike this. it seems dated
[name]Arthur[/name] - I love this actually. I think [name]Artie[/name] and [name]Art[/name] are adorable nicknames
[name]Atlas[/name] - I love the sound and look of it, but i would never use it considering it’s history
[name]Bennett[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] it! Sweet sound but you don’t hear it too often.
[name]Bowen[/name] - I think this has a cool sound, and the nn [name]Bo[/name] is definetily a plus. Maybe [name]Boden[/name]?
[name]Brennan[/name] - I dislike this. I strongly dislike [name]Brendan[/name] and [name]Brandon[/name], and this goes with them
[name]Camden[/name] - HATE THIS NAME! Not a great namesake at all, and not attractive (in my mind) either. NMS
[name]Drake[/name] - It’s okay. Seems like its trying to hard to be cool.
[name]Dorian[/name]- Kind of girly. I think a kid would be made fun of.
[name]Felix[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this name! Great meaning and really not that popular.
[name]Graham[/name] - Personally, I like this name. But I can see why others don’t
[name]Ian[/name] - I like this name. It’s not a favorite, but I definetily think it’s cute

Your husband has great taste! [name]Lucky[/name] girl (my husband has suggested Putter and [name]Terran[/name] for a boy- not gonna happen! Lol) I love…
[name]Alister[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]

From his list, I like [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Graham[/name], and [name]Ian[/name] best.

From your list I like:

[name]Anton[/name]
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]-[name]LOVE[/name]
[name]Bennett[/name]
[name]Bowen[/name]-GP
[name]Camden[/name]
[name]Drake[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name]
[name]Felix[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]
