As obviously suggested by the thread title, I have a name dilemma involving the nickname [name_f]Tori[/name_f]. I absolutely adore this nickname, however I also happen to not like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] one little bit. I’m actually not sure why, it just doesn’t appeal to me.
Does anyone have any ideas for a name that could give the nickname [name_f]Tori[/name_f]? I’m open to almost any suggestion, even if it’s a bit of a stretch. Also, is [name_f]Tori[/name_f] too insubstantial to use on its own? Would it be ok on it’s own as a middle name?
[name_f]Tori[/name_f] is completely substantial as a first name, not my style at all but I know several people named [name_f]Tori[/name_f] and it suits them just fine.
My best friend was having her daughter and she was in the same boat as you… loved [name_f]Tori[/name_f] disliked [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. So she decided to use [name_f]Tori[/name_f] only. Well when her sister-in-law said “Oh, they will call her whore-y [name_f]Tori[/name_f]” that was the end of that. I thought that it was such a rude way to ruin a perfectly sweet name. Guess what? Now her daughter [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] goes to high school with… you got it… some poor girl being tormented as whore-y [name_f]Tori[/name_f].
I would NEVER use [name_f]Tori[/name_f] on it’s own. I would choose something that has more than one nickname with [name_f]Tori[/name_f] being one of them.
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_u]Tora[/name_u]
[name_u]Torrance[/name_u] (although this is a masculine name it reminds me of ‘Bring It On’ as it was the main characters name)
[name_f]Tori[/name_f] by itself feels a bit dated - I know some Toris my age (late 20s), but I like some dated names and actually find that a plus bc that means the name isn’t too trendy. [name_f]Tori[/name_f] feels a little insubstantial to me, though the [name_f]Torey[/name_f] and [name_f]Torrie[/name_f] spelling feel a bit stronger. None of the [name_f]Tori[/name_f]'s I know have ever been called Whorey [name_f]Tori[/name_f] - never even occurred to me - but if you’re worried I’d go with a longer version.
This was a while ago, but I just wanted to chime in as a “[name_f]Tori[/name_f]” myself! (Although my mom went with the spelling [name_f]Torrie[/name_f])
Being objective about my name, I’m actually not a huge fan – though I’ve never once been called “whore-y [name_f]Torrie[/name_f]” thank god. People do frequently ask whether it’s short for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], which it’s not in my case. Also when I have to introduce myself I find myself over pronouncing the “T” as much as possible, especially on the phone as people are always like “[name_u]Cory[/name_u]?” “[name_f]Lori[/name_f]?”
I don’t like my name very much at all, I’ve always found it kind of insubstantial as the "r"s aren’t really a hard consonant and it’s never felt very… I don’t know, pretty? Interesting? There’s a reason it isn’t very popular.
