N Ending Boy Names

I’m on the hunt for N ending boy names. I feel like I’ve seen them all, but am hoping y’all know of something obscure I might love.

[name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f], my husband is [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and our children are [name_m]Benton[/name_m], [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. I prefer not to have another B, A, or R, but C would be fine. I definitely want to avoid the long A sound, the strong AR sound, endings with -wen and probably -ven/van/von/vin too.

Some N ending boy names I kinda like, but don’t love are [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Thorin[/name_m], [name_u]Julian[/name_u], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_m]Gibson[/name_m], [name_u]Canyon[/name_u], Clanton, [name_u]Declan[/name_u], [name_u]Corbin[/name_u], [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m], [name_m]Severin[/name_m] and [name_u]Dean[/name_u]. I love [name_m]Sylvan[/name_m], but worry about it being too similar to [name_u]Raven[/name_u] with the endings sounding super similar. We already get [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] and [name_u]Raven[/name_u] mixed up enough. We don’t need to add to that issue.

[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] would work well, but our last name starts with [name_u]Man[/name_u]- and my husband and oldest immediately started making jokes about “Hairy Man”. They’re so mature. lol [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] would work well too, but we have a family member with that name already.

I have my N ending girl names I love; [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], and [name_u]Fern[/name_u]. We’re hoping to have 2-3 more children. I’d be set if they were all girls, but my son would be pretty upset. lol

So… any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Thank you for all the suggestions! I really appreciate y’all trying to help me out. Below are my comments on the ones I liked or found interesting. Y’all can see just how much I’m over thinking this. lol

[name_u]Orion[/name_u] - I do like this one, but feel like it’s maybe too similar to [name_m]Brian[/name_m]? [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and [name_m]Benton[/name_m] already have their names mixed up fairly regularly. I can see this being even more of a problem with [name_u]Orion[/name_u].
[name_m]Kian[/name_m] / [name_m]Cian[/name_m] - interesting. I’ll have to think on these.
[name_u]Kieran[/name_u] / [name_m]Ciaran[/name_m] - ditto to above
[name_u]Devin[/name_u] / [name_u]Devon[/name_u] - love these, but worry they’re too similar to [name_u]Raven[/name_u].
[name_m]Lonan[/name_m] - want to like, but with a southern accent it sounds like the word “loaning”. We drop the G in -ing.
[name_u]Larkin[/name_u] - love, but it has the strong AR sound like [name_f]Arwen[/name_f].
[name_u]Heron[/name_u] - interesting. Would it be weird to have two bird names?
[name_m]Espen[/name_m] - I want to like a lot, but it makes me think of ESPN and I’m not fan of sports.
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] - really like, but it ends with a similar sound as [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] and she’s definitely my top girl name. I’ll think about it.
[name_m]Orson[/name_m] - I actually really like this one but worry it’s too similar to [name_f]Arwen[/name_f].
[name_m]Kipton[/name_m] - interesting. I think I’d like it more if it had more history, but it is cute and I love [name_m]Kip[/name_m] as a NN.
Elyan/Elian - not positive on how to pronounce this one, but I like the look of it with the I.
[name_m]Conan[/name_m] - I would love this one if it weren’t for [name_m]Conan[/name_m] O’Brien. The association is strong for me. And hubby’s name is [name_m]Brian[/name_m].
[name_u]Oberon[/name_u] - I’ve gone back and forth with this one. I like it, but I’m not sure I can see myself calling a child this.
[name_u]Logan[/name_u] - I really like [name_u]Logan[/name_u], but is it feeling a little over used these days? Plus there’s the X-Men link between it and [name_u]Raven[/name_u]. Is it too much?
[name_m]Phinean[/name_m] - interesting. I want to like it more than I actually do.
[name_u]Declan[/name_u] - ditto to above
[name_u]Lincoln[/name_u] - I like the sound of this one, but I’m not really into using president’s names.
[name_u]Franklin[/name_u] - I think this one is so cute, but my husband is from [name_u]Tennessee[/name_u] and [name_u]Franklin[/name_u], TN is not far from where he lived. It’s just weird to him. Plus it has the -lin ending.
[name_u]Jordan[/name_u] - love, but so over used.
[name_u]Jensen[/name_u] - like, but I think it’s too similar to [name_m]Benton[/name_m].
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] - love, but next to [name_u]Raven[/name_u] it’s extremely [name_u]Harry[/name_u] [name_m]Potter[/name_m]. lol
[name_m]Samson[/name_m] - love, but our dogs name is [name_u]Sammy[/name_u].
[name_m]Caian[/name_m] - interesting. I like that it’s kind of a smoosh of [name_m]Brian[/name_m] and [name_f]Cathryn[/name_f], but I think it has the same problem as [name_u]Orion[/name_u]. Plus it reminds me of cayenne pepper.
Hawkin - want to like, but again the southern accent gets in the way. It sounds like “hocking” which doesn’t bring pleasant imagery.

Ohhh I didn’t catch Caian rhyming with Brian :woman_facepalming::smile:
I love Caian and I’m so pleased to see it’s in the database now, with the same origin I found! I was researching it years ago when another user was looking for names fitting some strict parameters, and this was before I had a smartphone and unlimited access to the Internet. One of my local librarians got involved, and we had fun running down the little info we could find on Caian. It wasn’t listed in Nameberry’s database then. I love the meaning, “rejoice,” and I like its lilting sound and that it’s Welsh.

Perhaps Phinean spelled Finnian? Or maybe Finnegan or Finlan?
Cadogan?
Zephan?
One of the more uncommon -son names? Morrison, Hanson, Overson, Tomlinson etc.?

Ah, I didn’t think of that when I put Orion forward. They are rhymey and if people are confusing Brian and Brenton, that might be a problem. Still, they do look very different and I guess it depends how often you’d say them together?

Magdalen and Lachlan don’t sound matchy to me - slightly different in emphasis and that extra syllable of Magdalen differentiates them.

I did wonder that when I was suggesting, but they sound quite different to me - in my accent at least

I’d say it Ell-ee-on (like Elliot but with an N)

Would Finnian look more appealing?

Y’all don’t know how much I appreciate y’all continuing to try to help! I know I’m difficult!

[name_m]Caian[/name_m] is really growing on me. I may test it out with [name_m]Brian[/name_m] a bit. I do love that meaning and [name_m]Caius[/name_m] is on my list for non N endings, so I’d definitely be happy with this one if it wouldn’t be a headache with [name_m]Brian[/name_m].

[name_m]Zephan[/name_m] is interesting. It’s one I’ve considered before. I love the sound of it, but wonder if it ends up sounding too contrived or made up. I know it’s a diminutive of [name_u]Zephaniah[/name_u]. [name_m]Just[/name_m] not sure about it.

I do really like [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] and I think you’re right, it’s different enough from [name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] to work. I’ll have to consider it some more. I like it, but not really feeling any kind of attachment yet if that makes sense.

I’m betting [name_m]Elian[/name_m] will be a bit too on the feminine side for my husband. It did make me remember a name from a book I love, Elodin. Is it too far out there?

Nah, I think Phinean/Finnian just isn’t it.

Thanks again!

My bff has a teen son Zephan, and I have to admit that while she loves his name, she now wishes she’d named him Zephaniah, or, alternatively, Zephyr. He has two middle names and Zephaniah just seemed too long at the time, but everyone assumes his name is Zephaniah and it gets annoying.

I don’t know that Elodin is too “out-there,” but it does make me think of Elodie :woman_shrugging:
