I’ve been loving the name [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] lately, a lot. I remember making it up (spelled “[name_f]Nayara[/name_f]”) for a fantasy book character when I were about twelve years old, and when I discovered it was an actual Basque name in this spelling I was overjoyed. Apart from the meaning listed on Nameberry it can also mean “wished for”, as a spelling of Nahiara (from the Basque root “nahia”) which I think is a lovely meaning for a baby name.
What do you think of the name? And do you have any ideas for mn’s and sibsets? I kind of like the idea of two middle names, just like I have, and also of passing on my mother’s name ([name_f]Christina[/name_f]) to a future daughter… or maybe one “guilty pleasure” middle name and one meaningful middle name? I don’t really like short / filler middle names.
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f]/[name_f]Nayara[/name_f] are quite common here in [name_u]Brazil[/name_u], I have a cousin [name_f]Nayara[/name_f] who is the sister of Thaynara (Tie-nara). [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] is a beautiful name–I didn’t know it was Basque, I always assumed it was a name derived from an indigenous language… The meaning is lovely and I like how it flows well with your mom’s name. Here are some combo ideas:
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] [name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] or [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] [name_f]Elle[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
…
Have you considered using a name with the same meaning as [name_f]Christina[/name_f] or with an alternative spelling/variation?
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] is gorgeous…it’s breathtaking! I’d use it in a heartbeat. It conjures up the feeling of the sea for me, simply because it reminds me of Naiads, although there’s no connection (I guess?).
I love [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] and have so for a long time. One big reason for this for me is that it would work perfectly as a namesake for my mother. [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] is so zesty, yet still rather grounded, and strong. [name_f]Naia[/name_f] makes a great nickname, and it makes me think of the Naiads. I did wonder some time ago whether it was linked to Basque words nahi (‘wished for’) and [i]nahia /i - I was never really sure. Regardless of the meaning though, it’s a lovely name indeed.
[name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] & [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Christina[/name_f] are nice combos made from names in you signature, and again with those names, [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] feels to work well with [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] and [name_f]Luna[/name_f] for me, and I think they’d make for a nice sibling trio: [name_f]Naiara[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] – not at all too similar in style, but they compliment one another nicely.
Aw thank you for the suggestions! Really loving [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] [name_f]Mireille[/name_f]. I’m kind of scared the R’s would clash though… so many names clash with [name_f]Naiara[/name_f], it’s crazy! All of my favorites seem to start with N (Nimue, [name_f]Nerea[/name_f], [name_f]Natalia[/name_f]) or end in -ra ([name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f], [name_f]Elora[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Shira[/name_f]) or start with Ar ([name_u]Artemis[/name_u], [name_f]Araceli[/name_f], [name_f]Aravah[/name_f], [name_f]Arianwen[/name_f], [name_f]Arielle[/name_f])…
I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Valencia[/name_f], [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f], [name_f]Ophelie[/name_f], [name_f]Verity[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], [name_f]Florence[/name_f], [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f], [name_f]Coralie[/name_f] & [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] as individual names!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Naiara[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] as sisters too! However [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] are both super rare in my country (both given to only one girl last year!) while [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is very popular here and given to around 200 girls each year, maybe [name_f]Luana[/name_f] would be better?
I kind of love [name_f]Mireia[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeleia[/name_f] as a sister to [name_f]Naiara[/name_f] right now, although I’m afraid they’d be too similar because of the i’s. Thoughts?
