Name advice: 1st baby!

I’m beyond excited… after YEARS on this forum, I am actually trying for my own baby and I want some opinions/what comes to your mind when you hear these names? And even suggestions if you feel you have something that would fit in my theme! These are the names I like for girls:

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] my favorite:heart_eyes: pronounced (lee-OH-nee)

[name_f]Sylvana[/name_f]

[name_f]Isola[/name_f]

[name_f]Apolline[/name_f]

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] (this would realistically be a middle and not a first)

And then for a boy:

[name_m]Cassian[/name_m]

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]

??? [name_m]Not[/name_m] a lot of boy names are clicking with me

Last name will start with an M.

How exciting! Fingers crossed :sparkles::sparkles::sparkles:

Your names as a whole sound historical, romantic/ storybook epic, and distinct.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is so sweet! I personally would go [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] nn [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] but straight to [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] makes more sense! It’s both bubbly annd cheerful, and smart and reliable.

I really [name_f]Apolline[/name_f], but someone almost
ruined it by saying they hear “appalling”. So I would go for [name_f]Pomeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Ottoline[/name_f] or another dreamy -ine name.

[name_f]Léontine[/name_f] - nn [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] could be good - as a cross between [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] and gives nn [name_f]Leonie[/name_f].

[name_m]Not[/name_m] sure about [name_f]Isola[/name_f] - I need to get used to it (not sure the sound is as charming to me).

I prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] to [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] but that could be a nickname and [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] might be more significant for your heritage (eg Slavic, Italian etc).

I love [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] & really like [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] too. [name_m]Cass[/name_m] is a cute nn for a guy.

Ooh, that’s wonderful, good luck!

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] feels a bit like a nickname, but nicknames as full names are increasingly more common, so I think it works, and it’s very cute. [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] is gorgeous, I love names of that root so much. [name_f]Isola[/name_f] is so lovely, she feels familiar, without being super common. [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] is beautiful, super elegant, it might pose some pronunciation challenges, but I don’t think that should stop you. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is lovely, a classic, and would be wonderful as a first or middle.

[name_m]Cassian[/name_m] is so charming, I love the nickname [name_m]Cass[/name_m]. [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] is so darling, I love him so much!

How exciting!

Such stunning names I absolutely love [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] she’s so sweet, elegant and strong with the lovely meaning lion. I would completely embrace the meaning with lion motifs around her room and lion toys. I also think [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is effortless such a lovely name. [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] feels romantic, whimsical and wintry with an almost magical quality to her. [name_f]She[/name_f] feels more unexpected in comparison to [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] however I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] would make a pretty nickname for [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is beautiful. [name_f]Isola[/name_f] is a bold choice and has a quirky colourful feel. [name_f]She[/name_f] isn’t my personal favourite from your list partly as there are so many other lovely choices. Also want to put forward [name_f]Iola[/name_f] as an idea too. [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] is very bold, striking and has this mystical elegance my only flaw is the meaning ‘destroyer’ which isn’t my favourite. Still I like the overall sound. [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is very sophisticated.

You’ve had lots of lovely suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries

[name_m]Cassian[/name_m] is such a smart name with a tailored, sleek disposition. I think [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] is lovely! I also really like [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] he’s smart, gentlemanly and distinctive.

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] and [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] are lovely! [name_f]Isola[/name_f] is interesting though it reminds me of one of my favorites, [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]

Congratulations! I wish you all the luck!

[name_f]Leonie[/name_f] - is absolutely stunning. I love the connection to lions, how sleek and unique [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] is. It’s a great, underused choice.

[name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] - Sylvana’s very pretty and I love the forest imagery. I do slightly prefer the similar name [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], but Sylvana’s got a whimsy and maturity that makes it very appealing as well.

[name_f]Isola[/name_f] - [name_m]Not[/name_m] my personal favourite. I think the sound is beautiful, but it reminds me a lot of the word “isolated”.

[name_f]Apolline[/name_f] - I love. It’s elegant and bright and operatic. Potential nickname [name_f]Polly[/name_f] is adorable and makes [name_f]Apolline[/name_f] much more approachable.

[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] - would make a great middle. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is popular, but for good reason. [name_m]You[/name_m] can’t really go wrong with such an enduring classic.

[name_m]Cassian[/name_m] - [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Cassian[/name_m]. Very underused, and so handsome. I also think [name_m]Cassian[/name_m] complements your girls names really well, combining Apolline’s grandeur with Leonie’s sparkle.

[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] - Also very handsome. I enjoy the “rose” part of this name, and how [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] feels gentle and masculine at the same time.

Girls names that feel like they would fit in on this list - [name_f]Olenna[/name_f], [name_f]Odette[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Isabeau[/name_f], and [name_f]Vivia[/name_f]

Potential boys names - [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Rhett[/name_m], [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m], [name_m]Everett[/name_m], [name_m]Valentine[/name_m], [name_m]Dorian[/name_m]

Thank you for such a detailed response! You’re spot on about the theme I lean towards with names haha. Out of the ones you’ve suggested I really like:

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f], [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], & [name_f]Sabine[/name_f]

As well as:

[name_m]Tolliver[/name_m] for a boy! I could definitely see the nickname [name_f]Tolly[/name_f] when he’s little. I’ll have to take this list back to my partner so we can narrow it down to 5 or so and have it be manageable.

Thank you for all the recommendations and your comments!

I’m going to see what my partner thinks of [name_f]Adelais[/name_f] (love the look of this btw), [name_f]Elodia[/name_f], [name_f]Maeva[/name_f], [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m], and [name_m]Tolliver[/name_m].

Thank you, and I do also love the name [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. I didn’t always but it’s grown on me and if we went with [name_f]Sylvana[/name_f] as a first name then I’d definitely start using [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] for short.

Out of your suggestions I really am drawn to [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] & [name_f]Viviana[/name_f]. [name_m]The[/name_m] only hang up is I initially had [name_f]Vivien[/name_f] on my list of likes for a girl and my fiancé was not a fan in the slightest so I’m wondering if he’ll like [name_f]Viviana[/name_f] any better. It’s definitely a gorgeous name though!

I have a more difficult time with male names but I will be considering [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] as well, I’m just wondering if the spelling [name_m]Lazlo[/name_m] would be easier for a kid in the US? [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] or [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Lazlo[/name_m] does have a nice ring to it.

[name_f]Isadora[/name_f], [name_f]Vivia[/name_f], and [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m]

Honestly [name_m]Rhodes[/name_m] is probably my favorite boy name that I’ve heard in awhile, I really like the pronounciation and it has good associations with it. [name_f]Vivia[/name_f] is going to be kinda iffy to bring up to my fiancé because he wasn’t a fan of [name_f]Vivien[/name_f] which was initially on my list of likes. But we’ll see, I’m gonna try!

I love all the names on your list!

Leonie - late summer on a French estate :fountain:

Sylvana - sunny and bright but also a little mysterious :sun:

Isola - sparkles like the ocean :ocean:

Apolline - sweet like blossoms in spring :cherry_blossom:

Catherine - strong and timeless, a great middle name choice :woman_s_hat:

Cassian - brave and noble like a knight :crossed_swords:

Ambrose - cosy like an autumn day at golden hour :fallen_leaf:

I love the idea of Leonie Catherine  it feels timeless and classic with a touch of European charm!

@janeybaby [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] is lovely I prefer this spelling and I think this spelling is more attractive however I’m not in the US so can’t comment on whether [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] or [name_m]Lazlo[/name_m] works better really. I think [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_m]Laszlo[/name_m] works nicely.
