Hello Berries! We are expecting baby #3 in the spring. Older sibs are [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name]. We were almost 100% convinced that this little one (if he is a boy) would be [name]Duncan[/name] [name]Francis[/name] (or [name]Duncan[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]). [name]Both[/name] [name]Francis[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name] are important family names.
Here’s the angst. In the last month, two pretty good friends who live in different towns than us, named their sons Deacan and Deklan.
It seems that these are just to similar to [name]Duncan[/name]…[name]Do[/name] you have any suggestions for alternatives? We like traditional/classic names. Literary, Saints, Biblical are also big hits. We have a very common Scottish last name, so I do like Scottish names too (hence the appeal of [name]Duncan[/name]). If this baby is a girl, she will be [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Francine[/name] (or [name]Susanna[/name] [name]Iris[/name] [name]Louise[/name])…
Oh, I love your children’s names [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Thomas[/name] and also the middles of [name]Francis[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name]. Too bad you don’t feel you can choose [name]Duncan[/name] due to your friends using similar sounding names Deacan and Deklan (very trendy). Have you considered [name]Francis[/name] [name]Xavier[/name] which is a saint’s name? I think another classic gem would be in order. Here are some suggestions, both Scottish and otherwise. Best wishes! Scottish

My husband works with two men, one is named [name]Davin[/name] which I really like, and the other one is Delan.
Those are two unique D names that have a similar sound.
TBH, if you two were settled on [name]Duncan[/name], I’d totally keep it. While sound-alike, Deacan and Deklan are very different names than [name]Duncan[/name], and, regardless, three playmates “Deacan, Deklan and [name]Duncan[/name]” are kind of cute.
You could go [name]Francis[/name] [name]Duncan[/name] or [name]Xavier[/name] [name]Duncan[/name]. I actually like [name]Xavier[/name] [name]Duncan[/name] quite a bit.
Please use [name]Duncan[/name]!! I love this name.
I understand that you want your child to have a name very distinct from the names of your friends’ sons BUT as you said, they live in separate towns and it will be cute those times the 3 boys are hanging out, not ridiculous. [name]Imagine[/name] how many play groups consisting of [name]Aiden[/name], [name]Jayden[/name] and [name]Brayden[/name] there are…
AND (warning this is a kinda rude statement) who knows how long these friends will be in your life, or nearby, and your son is with you forever!! SO go with a name you know you and your husband love.
Another fantastic name is [name]Devlin[/name], but you may feel this has the same issues as [name]Duncan[/name].
Thank you so much for your considerate replies to my post. And apologies for not sending my thanks sooner…somehow I was away from the computer all of [name]Christmas[/name].
I love your suggestions…especially [name]Daniel[/name], [name]Alistair[/name], [name]Malcolm[/name], and [name]Oliver[/name].
I think we’re back to leaning towards [name]Duncan[/name] [name]Xavier[/name]…but my husband really loves [name]Oliver[/name]!
