Name Billie for a girl?

I‘m not expecting or anything but recently I watched a film in which one of the protagonists was a lovely girl called [name_u]Billie[/name_u] and since that I‘ve been thinking that [name_u]Billie[/name_u] is a lovely choice for a girl. So I was wondering what you think. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think it‘s too gender-crossing or do you like it?

I quite like [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl! I much prefer it on a girl than a boy, actually.

I know a ton of Billies (girls) and Billys (boys). It’s pretty gender neutral in the UK, and I really like it on a girl. It has that quirk on girls that it lacks on boys [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. I also really like [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u].

I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl actually! I love the pizzazz it has on girls, thanks to [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Holiday[/name_f], whereas on boys, it feels a little tired and overdone. I say use it!

I love it a lot. If it wasn’t a top 100 name for girls in NZ it would be on my own list.

I’m not typically a fan of boy names on girls, but [name_u]Billie[/name_u] I make an exception for. I much prefer it as a nickname for something longer, though, like [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Willa[/name_f], or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f].

So darling! I also really like [name_f]Bobbi[/name_f]/[name_u]Bobbie[/name_u] on a girl.

I like [name_u]Billie[/name_u], it’s cute and sweet. Plus [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is awesome

On a girl, [name_u]Billie[/name_u] feels fresh while [name_u]Billy[/name_u] would sound dated on a boy. I prefer it as a nickname for Wilhemina.

I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u]-it’s super cute and will age into a cool name for an adult. I don’t think it’s too “gender-crossing” at all, just gender neutral with a feminine touch.

I love [name_u]Billie[/name_u] for a girl! It makes me think of [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] and [name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f]. I actually prefer it as a girl’s name.

I’m in the minority but [name_u]Billie[/name_u] isn’t my cup of tea. It just doesn’t sound very sophisticated to me.

I really like it! But I prefer it as a nn for [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f].

I like it!

I love it for a girl. Much prefer for a girl than a boy. It would’ve been on my list had [name_u]Billy[/name_u] not recently been used in the family for a boy. I’m not keen for a boy.

[name_u]Billie[/name_u] I love!

[name_u]Billie[/name_u] [name_u]Piper[/name_u] is awesome and I’m sure was behind a surge of baby Billies and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] Fishers daughter [name_u]Billie[/name_u] Lourd is bringing [name_u]Billie[/name_u] back again imo. She’s also awesome.

I like it!!

Ehhh, I have a hard time getting behind masculine names for girls. I just don’t personally like it. I understand how names like [name_u]Billie[/name_u], [name_u]Eliot[/name_u], [name_u]James[/name_u], etc. have a girl feel to them, and you have girls that can super pull it off, like [name_f]Millie[/name_f] [name_u]Bobby[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m].

But I kinda feel like there are so many beautiful girl names that reaching into the traditionally boy’s pool is not really necessary. I also feel like there’s not very many boys names I like, and so when I see boy names moving to girl names, I sometimes get a little frustrated.

It also might be the feminist in me that wants to know what’s so wrong with girl names that you have to give your daughter a boy name… Or what is it with boys names that you can’t achieve with girl names? There are plenty of strong female names that give off the quirky, tomboy, fun-loving vibe (and those things are exclusive to boys anyway). But I know that’s just my own silly opinion, and tons of people would disagree.

All of this is to say, I would not personally give a girl a traditionally boys name that hasn’t already made the switch ([name_f]Lauren[/name_f], [name_u]Hilary[/name_u], [name_u]Meredith[/name_u], etc., are pretty much exclusively girl names), because I like names for girls that have a really feminine feel.

I think [name_u]Billie[/name_u] could be a cute nickname for a [name_f]Willa[/name_f] or [name_f]Willemina[/name_f], both of which come from [name_m]William[/name_m].
