[name_f]Bertha[/name_f] is great!
I found a phone rep named [name_f]Marisol[/name_f] and kept her on the phone 10 minutes talking about how I liked her name…I can see explaining that to your boss! HAHA
Yeah, I embarrassed my student [name_f]Gladys[/name_f] by raving about her name too!
I’m pretty sure Xela thinks I’m crazy, because every time I meet her I make some kind of comment about how awesome her name is! She always looks politely weirded out. Oops.
What I get most embarrassed about is randomly telling my students what their name means or some other kind of comment like that. For example in the middle of Algebra one day, I looked at a student named [name_m]Phillip[/name_m] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] (because of course I’ve looked up all their middle names in the system) and said, “Oh, I just got it how your first middle and last names are all Greek! That’s so cool.” The kids all stare at me like I’m weird. [name_u]Or[/name_u] I’ll comment on how two kids sitting next to each other have similar meanings. One day I walked into the Spanish classroom and a boy named [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] was writing something on the board and I said “Hey Perro…” and another kid absolutely lost it laughing while the rest of the room stared at us. This other kid totally caught my pun, because he’s linguistically gifted, speaks Spanish like a native, and has studied Hebrew. I speak nothing but [name_f]English[/name_f], but know all about names!
Once I got so excited because I realized that the “theo” in [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] is the same as the “thew” in [name_m]Matthew[/name_m] (and the “thias” in Matthias), because they both are “teo” in Spanish. While I was telling my [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] this, and breaking her name into the pieces, the [name_u]William[/name_u] next to her starts talking about how his name comes from [name_m]Wilhelm[/name_m], and means basically Helmet of [name_u]Will[/name_u]. So the third student in my class of three, gets all excited and wants me to “break down” her name for her. Her name is [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. It just means [name_f]Grace[/name_f]. She was so disappointed that we couldn’t do the pieces of her name. Her middle name is [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. So…
I can relate. When we’d read a book in [name_f]English[/name_f] set in pioneer times or the 20’s, I’d have each kid pick a super popular name from that era to “be” temporarily. [name_f]Imagine[/name_f] [name_u]Noah[/name_u] turning into [name_u]Floyd[/name_u] or [name_f]Jenna[/name_f] becoming [name_f]Velma[/name_f]!
And then there’d often be someone who did not look like her name. I’d say once, “You look like a Lillian” and oh dear, after that [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] is all I could think of as her name.
There have been several pregnant teachers at my kids preschool, and I’m always like, LET’S TALK NAMES and they look at me like I’m a bit touched. One of them ended up choosing [name_u]Noah[/name_u] last year, and I had to quickly mask my disappointment to be like, “Oh! Cute!” instead of barking, “Why would you choose the second most popular name of last year?!?” as if I have stake in the game.

Yes!
Our lovely nephew and niece in law – I sent them tons of Celtic and Scandinavian names when they became pregnant - named their son [name_m]Caden[/name_m] and their daughter [name_f]Anika[/name_f].
After teaching 537 Cadens, this was a hard lump to swallow.
That’s my name! I’m a girl though. [name_m]Caspian[/name_m] [name_f]Cate[/name_f]
I am a year-round admin for a massive youth program. I just got the updated summer hiring list and there’s THREE of us this season!
Oh, I have a few. But I remember asking one of my physical therapist what was his daughter’s name, since I saw a pick of her as a lock screen. He told me his daughter’s name is [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], I got excited. And then he told me that his wife’s name is [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f], and I was over the moon. But he looked at me a bit funny, before going back to exercise.
Another one was way back, when I was around 12 years old, me and my mom were in a public bathroom at a gold show, and we ran into a woman with her daughter. And the daughter’s name was [name_u]America[/name_u], and she had a friend named [name_u]Winter[/name_u], which I thought were lovely names at the time.

This is the most relatable thread on this website
Thanks!
Yep! Araminta… I think I swooned just a little too much - got a weird look or two from the people I was with at the time.
But come on, can you blame me? Araminta
It has been one of my favourite names ever since.
Oh, I’d swoon too.
The only sort of personal ad I can imagine placing would be something like, “Looking to meet an [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] for name appreciation”!
Bringing this thread back, I guess,
Not a first name, but a guy that was checking out his groceries in the lane I was bagging in ordered a sub and it had his last name on it, the last name being the same as the kid in [name_u]South[/name_u] [name_u]Park[/name_u] that is immortal, and also oddly enough on his canon birthday (March 22nd). For those of you that didn’t know who [name_m]Kenny[/name_m] McCormick is, I’ve attached a picture of him below.
And who said grocery stores can’t be name mines!
I was not expecting OP to rise back and respond. You’re right.
[name_u]An[/name_u] acquaintance had a granddaughter born over the weekend who was named [name_f]Willa[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]. From the looks she gave me as we parted, I may have been a little over-enthusiastic about the baby’s name.
LOL, so true, so true! I feel your pain.
