Name for Karen Burmese baby boy

We are looking for a name for a [name_f]Karen[/name_f] Burmese baby boy (first child, so no siblings yet). The parents want an [name_f]English[/name_f] name that would work well in the [name_f]Karen[/name_f] language too. The last name will be Mue or Moo (please be mature). A 2- or 3-syllable first name would probably be preferable.
Thank you in advance!

I live in an area with a large Burmese population; a few names I’ve liked have been Kaw, Htar, Helblu and especially Myint.

Thank you, Poffin! You’re my first response. :slightly_smiling_face:
The parents know [name_f]Karen[/name_f] names well, being [name_f]Karen[/name_f] Burmese themselves, but they’re looking for help with an [name_f]English[/name_f] name. They want their baby boy (due in April) to have an [name_f]English[/name_f] first name.

I think they want to find an [name_f]English[/name_f] name first, then they’ll come up with a [name_f]Karen[/name_f] Burmese name to go with it. As mentioned, the last name will be Mue or Moo.

Oh my apologies! :flushed: I tend to read fast

A few ideas…

[name_m]Jason[/name_m]
[name_u]Ryan[/name_u]
[name_u]Levi[/name_u]
[name_u]Liam[/name_u]
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]
[name_m]Ethan[/name_m]
[name_u]Austin[/name_u]
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_u]Connor[/name_u]

I’ll pass those along!
My take: Although we’re looking for English names, we’re trying to avoid names that are strongly associated with a different ethnicity, if you understand what I mean. Do you think Liam or Connor would be too Irish for a Burmese kid? Should we stay with something more universal?

I actually know a Burmese guy who goes by [name_u]Connor[/name_u] which is partly why I suggested it, and he hasn’t had any issues, I think names like [name_u]Liam[/name_u] and [name_u]Connor[/name_u] are pretty mainstream now

Are there specific sounds or styles they’re drawn to in an [name_f]English[/name_f] name?

Here are some [name_f]English[/name_f] names I think of as likeable and easy to wear for a 2023 baby boy:

[name_u]Henry[/name_u]
[name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_u]Benjamin[/name_u] (Ben or Benji)
[name_m]Colin[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (Theo or Teddy)
[name_u]Daniel[/name_u]
[name_u]Jonah[/name_u]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Simon[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] (Nathan or Nate)

[name_m]Kaius[/name_m]
[name_m]Malakai[/name_m]
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Lysander[/name_m]
[name_m]Ajay[/name_m]
[name_u]Theo[/name_u]
[name_u]Asher[/name_u]
[name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_u]Sawyer[/name_u]
[name_m]Boden[/name_m]

(tried to find names that look like Burmese names or Burmese words - but I’m not sure how accurate this is)

Thank you, LostMargaret, that’s thoughtful! I asked them the same thing (preference for length of name, names that start or end with a certain letter, etc.), but didn’t get anywhere, so I’m just giving them some names to choose from. Enough to have a good selection, but not so many that it’s completely overwhelming!

Yes, Greyblue, I was trying to go for names that might have a “sibling”, so to speak, in the [name_f]Karen[/name_f] Burmese language. It’s hard because the names are so different!
