Name for Luca's brother with an Italian last name

We need some help coming up with a name for [name]Luca[/name]'s little brother.
With only 7 weeks to go, this seems to be getting harder to pick a name.

Our last name is [name]Barolo[/name] so we have tended to like shorter first names.
We are using [name]Palmer[/name] as a middle name (family).

Some names on our short list, but we’re open to suggestions- [name]Knox[/name], [name]Leo[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Roman[/name], [name]Pax[/name], [name]Jett[/name], [name]Maddox[/name], [name]Matteo[/name].

With [name]Luca[/name] [name]Barolo[/name] I prefer (at least somewhat) classically Italian for a sibling, so I like best of your current choices:

[name]Leo[/name] [name]Barolo[/name]
[name]Matteo[/name] [name]Barolo[/name] (I think you could nn him [name]Maddox[/name]/Mattox if you really wanted to).

Although it seems pretty different from your taste, I’ve always loved [name]Giovanni[/name], could you nn [name]Gio[/name] since you like [name]Leo[/name]? Could maybe even nn [name]Jett[/name] from this.

[name]Nico[/name]/[name]Nicolas[/name] (nn [name]Knox[/name])?
[name]Paolo[/name] (nn [name]Pax[/name])?
[name]Casimiro[/name] nn [name]Pax[/name] (name means [name]Pax[/name])?
Xaviero/[name]Xavier[/name]?

Anyway I’m certainly not one to tell you you should only stick to Italian names, and anything’s fine. The only one of your list that gives me pause is [name]Jude[/name] and [name]Luca[/name]…it’s a lot of “oo”, although not a deal breaker. And if more siblings are on the way, I’d encourage you not to use the full [name]Jolie[/name]-[name]Pitt[/name] sibling name set : D.

All best!

[name]Knox[/name], [name]Pax[/name], and [name]Maddox[/name] have been totally [name]Jolie[/name]-Pittrified to me, so I’d take them off. I could do with [name]Paxton[/name], though, or any of these names as a middle (elventh president [name]James[/name] K. [name]Polk[/name]'s K was [name]Knox[/name], by the way)
[name]Leo[/name] and [name]Jude[/name] are a bit too close for comfort with brother [name]Luca[/name], so I’d eliminate those as well.
[name]Jett[/name] is a bit tied to [name]John[/name] Travolta’s son to me, and that’s a bit of a tragic connection. It’s also a bit noun-y for me.
[name]Matteo[/name]- A great fit with [name]Luca[/name], probably the best on your list. The only trouble is that it does sort of lock you into an Italian theme; if you’re planning on having more kids, you may want to think about whether you like other Italian/Latinate names so you don’t end up with something odd, like [name]Matteo[/name], [name]Luca[/name], and [name]Patrick[/name].
[name]Roman[/name]- I like this too. It’s more of a literal Italian name, but the trendy sound makes it fit in well with other non-Italian names on your list, like [name]Jude[/name].
So top picks are [name]Matteo[/name] and [name]Roman[/name].
Some suggestions you may like: [name]Finn[/name]/[name]Flynn[/name], [name]Anton[/name], [name]Milo[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Raphael[/name], [name]Dominic[/name], [name]Elias[/name]

*[name]Hi[/name]!

OK, so I had to post a reply to you because we also have a little [name]Luca[/name] who will be a big brother to our new baby boy soon. Their big sister is [name]Sofia[/name] AND we also have an Italian last name. [name]Just[/name] to give you the heads up, the previous poster is right…if you are thinking about having a 3rd then consider carefully when you name this one whether you want to go full Italian. If you do (like going with [name]Matteo[/name]), it kind of restricts you when trying to name the next! That’s the position we are in now. We have [name]Sofia[/name], [name]Luca[/name] and ???. I don’t want to go super Italian because so many of the boy names are too fussy for me but anything that doesn’t at least have a slight Italian/Latin feel sounds a little odd with the other 2. I’m driving my husband bananas!!

Anyway, from your list I like [name]Matteo[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]. Right now, our top 2 are [name]Gabe[/name] ([name]Gabriel[/name]) and [name]Max[/name] ([name]Massimo[/name]).

Keep us posted on what you decide!!

I second the remark about [name]Jett[/name] and Travolta – also, I edited my post because I realized I had typed “celebrity” instead of sibling : D! I wonder if you like [name]Leo[/name] for the same reason – [name]Leo[/name] DiCaprio? It is close to [name]Luca[/name], 2 syllables and L, but not unbearably so. It’s the most flexible of the celebrity-esque names.

I do see the difficulty other posters mention about all future children being more likely to have Italian names the further in you go, and I see no big difficulties with [name]Luca[/name] and some more classic non-Italian names (to give one example, [name]Gabriel[/name] that the other poster is considering, and most familiar Biblical names are in the same boat). I think the problem is going from [name]Luca[/name] to something like [name]Knox[/name] which is not only a different language tradition but just very celebrity instead of classic like [name]Luca[/name]. A big set of two steps to take.

Anyway I had a new thought: [name]Matteo[/name] is really nice, further from [name]Luca[/name] than [name]Leo[/name], and both boys can go by more English [name]Luke[/name] and [name]Matt[/name] if they want / you want (and this possibly minimizes some of the “stuffiness” another poster feels about most Italian names if you feel that way too). Plus, I think [name]Matteo[/name] could go by [name]Teo[/name]? might capture some of what you like about [name]Leo[/name].

I have always loved variants of [name]Pascal[/name] like [name]Pasquale[/name] – [name]Pax[/name] is a plausible nickname for that. If I’m doing the math right, he’s due not particularly long after [name]Easter[/name], though of course it’s probably a strong association for the name regardless of birthdate and I can imagine it might not be your style.

Best wishes whatever you choose!

What about [name]Dante[/name]?

I’m in the same boat. I have an Italian last name, 2 daughters, [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Luisa[/name], and baby #3 due in 2 weeks (don’t know the gender yet). We are also having a hard time deciding on a name for either gender. Have you considered [name]Gian[/name]? It is a classic, short Italian name that isn’t too over the top or too out there.

Oooh, I love [name]Dante[/name]! I think [name]Roman[/name] is a good option as well.
I was trying to think of Italian-ish names that wouldn’t lock you in and came up with:
[name]Anton[/name] and [name]Luca[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name] and [name]Luca[/name]
[name]Enzo[/name] and [name]Luca[/name]
[name]Vincent[/name] and [name]Luca[/name]
