I’ve been in search for a mini aussie for awhile now, and we finally found a breeder that’s close and she has a female that is pregnant right now and due to have her pups within the next week.
My husband and I are for sure getting a merle female but we don’t know if we are getting red or blue. We want red but she says she usually has a lot of blue merles and not many reds.
So I’ve been thinking of names and here is my list (in order of preference)
As you can see I’m into a little bit different dog names than just your standard Lady, [name]Bailey[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], and [name]Lucy[/name].
We currently have a Newfoundland named Kramer, so something you can pronounce and have heard of but may not hear on a dog too often is perfect.
Any other ideas for names would be great! Also tell me your favorite from my list.
Is it an Australian [name]Shepherd[/name] or an Australian Terrier? I like [name]Daphne[/name] from your list. [name]Lux[/name] and [name]Snow[/name] would be better for a light coated dog.
Suggestions
Names like [name]Fargo[/name] ([name]Fargo[/name] is too much of a [name]Dakota[/name] place name as well as a film): [name]Margo[/name]/[name]Margot[/name], [name]Marlowe[/name]
Names like [name]Juno[/name]/[name]Juneau[/name] - [name]Iris[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Clio[/name], [name]Alba[/name], [name]Luna[/name], [name]Lyra[/name]
Names like [name]Reba[/name] (sorry but all I think about is [name]Reba[/name] McEntire) - [name]Nora[/name], [name]Mabel[/name]/[name]Maybelle[/name], [name]Nola[/name], [name]Sadie[/name], [name]Lucy[/name]/[name]Lucille[/name], [name]Hattie[/name], [name]Bessie[/name]
It’s an Australian [name]Shepherd[/name] and a lot of the [name]Blue[/name] Merles have quite a bit of white on them, that’s why I thought [name]Lux[/name] or [name]Snow[/name] may work.
I live in [name]North[/name] [name]Dakota[/name] currently so [name]Fargo[/name] doesn’t bother me, especially because when we move back to Minnesota it’s kind of a nice reminder of when we did live in ND.
[name]Phoebe[/name] and [name]Hattie[/name] are pretty much the only ones I like from what you suggested. I have [name]Norah[/name] on my baby name list so I would never use it on a dog. [name]Sadie[/name] is too “typical dog name” though I do like it, I want to be a little more creative.
I think [name]Snow[/name] is rather lovely for a [name]Mini[/name] Aussie – especially if she has a lot of white, but if you use it you must commit with all your heart to never using “NO!” You can use “Leave It” or something else, but “no” so close to “snow” would not only be confusing but leave your dog thinking you hated her and were confused about the difference between her behavior and her very self.
I also like [name]Sky[/name] for this breed, for obvious reasons, but it might be too much of a cliche for you. [name]Oceana[/name] is cool for a blue merle, if it is not too French and fancy for your taste. [name]Sky[/name] or water imagery works well – Wave, [name]Cloud[/name]. [name]Bluebell[/name]. [name]Just[/name] kidding. I don’t know why I threw that in.
I don’t know about you, but I like names for dogs that seem classic but are not over-used – [name]Piper[/name] (except you already have an ‘er’ ending). I like [name]Posy[/name] and [name]Pansy[/name], which might not be your style at all. [name]How[/name] about [name]Dinah[/name] or [name]Diantha[/name]? If you want an Aussie name, there is a beach there, Kirra. I think that makes a nice name.
I love the red merles, too. I think [name]Reba[/name] would be adorable for one.
Well the breeder I was talking to entirely dropped off the face of the earth, she responded to me by email 1 time and then stopped, it’s been almost a month, I’ve also called her and her phone is off and the voicemail is full. So anyway we found another breeder and put a deposit on a blue merle. Here is a picture
She is the bottom one.
I would love more suggestions, because we are really loving [name]Fargo[/name] but I am concerned that there aren’t any good nickname possibilities. So I’m trying to top that name or come up with a cute nickname for it.
[name]Bonnie[/name]- [name]Sky[/name] is our neighbors dogs name, and our yards are basically connected so that might be confusing. I also agree about [name]Snow[/name], I never thought of that.
seraares- I like [name]Clover[/name], but with Kramer it’s too similar because of the er ending. Blush is very pretty but definitely more for a red merle.
Does anyone else like [name]Rue[/name]? I suggested it to my husband as he loves the Hunger Games and he said he didn’t love it as much as [name]Fargo[/name] or the name he suggested [name]Indy[/name].
I wish I could get him to agree to [name]Rue[/name] because I’m loving it now.
love [name]Rue[/name]…maybe your hubby would like it better spelt “Roo”? like a kangaroo? ( aussies are bouncy/energetic lil guys!) or [name]Roux[/name]?
how about…
[name]Paisley[/name]
Minx
[name]Bliss[/name]
Soda
[name]Narah[/name] (probably too similar to [name]Norah[/name], but thought I’d throw it out there)
[name]Comet[/name]
Melou ( prn [name]May[/name]-lou)
[name]Nella[/name]
Hello! I will get blue [name_u]Merle[/name_u] female puppy thru Breeder next month. I was planning to name her Toffee but I see that it is for red [name_u]Merle[/name_u]. So far, I like [name_f]Shyla[/name_f]. My friend recommends me to find some cute names since we are hikers. Any suggestion?
